So you don't work for a firm then? don't drivers need an office down there? (are they using "Taxi-call?)

Of course I work with a firm, but if that firm went under then I would go and work with another one.

Your loyalty is commendable

You're right to be cynical jimbo - if Sussex's firm went bust I think he should just sit at home but continue to pay their fees for not providing him with work

But I would be a cynic if I were unfortunate as Sussssex is, to be a PH driver.
You need to be to survive the cynical way that the office owners treat drivers. A hate hate situation, far in excess of anything over our side of the fence. no wonder he's desperate to join us... eusasmiles.zip

When ever I do join your side of the fence, I'm pretty certain I will stay the other side as well.

I think that applies more to the like of Mr Cgull's manor, but hey having it both ways is better than not having it at all.

Or so I'm told.

Even I worked that one out, but it still says nothing about driver numbers.

There is very many PH drivers who want to go on Hackney, the licencing office has scrapped the old queue list for plates and set up a new one as they hadnt issued a plate in over 15 years (due to plates being sold illegally) so now there is a nice new list of people ready to fork out the near £200 to get their Hackney Badge, before the plates get issued

20 a year from April 2006 will be issued, to a total of i think 100 new plates.
To be honest it doesnt bother me as i being PH am happy where i am and with what i do, the Hackneys in some parts of the Borough have a bad name due to the attitude of some of the drivers (experianced myself that they think they have a god given right to every fare, even though the fare was booked PH) and the fares they charge compared to the PH companies.

Haven't they also got to be wheel-chair accessible?

They want to enforce that from 2008 (dont know what month) all Hackney have to be wheelchair accessable.
There is nothing to say that these new plates have to go on wheelchair accessable vehicles, but it's Oldham, so they can do what they want when they want (or so it seems to us)

[quote="TDO"]What it says it that doubling the number of taxis needn't affect takings in the slightest, whereas leaving the number of taxis the same could lead to takings being halved.
[/quote

Thats providing there is no increase in drivers, and providing that current day drivers don't start working at night and current night drivers don't start working through the day.

Double shifted cars ensure cover the day drivers only have the cab through the day and night drivers only have the cab on a night ............. so its impossible to cross over shifts.

In Gateshead most of our PH offices are "open" ie. drivers can work whenever they want. However recently a "shifted" office suggested becoming an "open" office and none of the drivers agreed.

It is possibly worthy of note that the shifted offices have waiting lists of drivers wanting to join and the open offices are looking for drivers to join.

Speaks volumes to me that mind.

B. Lucky :D

Oldham report reccomends removing numbers

The long awaited committee report has recommended deregulation of numbers in a controlled issue of x amount of cabs each year. The cabs will all be wav. A final meeting of the Task and Finish group took place on 30th January. A final report will now go to either the Cabinet or full council, I haven't yet ascertained which?

Regards

JD
