Hackney carriage driver Ashuque Ahmed was fined at Chelmsford Magistrates' Courts

https://www.eppingforestguardian.co.uk/ ... es-courts/

A taxi driver with an elapsed licence has been fined.

On March 25 Environment and Neighbourhood officers from the district council were carrying out late night spots checks on the Buckhurst Hill Station taxi rank.

At the front of the line was Ashuque Ahmed, who had failed to renew his licence when it expired on February 27, 2018.

The Dalkeith Road, Ilford resident was fined £346 with costs of £300 and a victim surcharge of £34 after he pleaded guilty at a hearing in Chelmsford Magistrates Court on October 11 2018, to plying for hire in an unlicensed taxi.

The Hackney Carriage driver’s licence held by Mr Ahmed was also suspended and he surrendered it back to the council without appealing the decision.

Took me a minute or two to work out it was his vehicle license that had expired, not his driver's license.

Whats the betting he was working like a so and so to get the money to get it fit for re-licensing.

Bit of a pillock. But I suspect there are many out there in the same boat, or should I say cab?

Wonder why the Council Enforcement Officer had not been around to his abode and removed the plate.

we had one a year or two ago working on Friday and Saturday night with a plate 6 months out of date. Our enforcement officers usually only do ONE night a year if that in Stamford so his chances of getting caught were practically nil

Yes, not unusual for such articles to not make it clear whether it's badge or plate, or both. However, in this case the final para does make it clear that it wasn't the badge that had expired.

And I did put 'expired *plate*' in the thread title as a clue

Personally, I was more concerned by the paper's 'elapsed licence' - *lapsed*, surely :-s

Surely the other drivers on the rank would have noticed it was out of date and reported him .
Or maybe they are all "brothers" and look after each other.

Not every area has the date on the plate.

that's always the case if a non muslim driver did that they would all take turns to keep phoning and phoning the council. But if it's a muslim driver they NEVER get caught or reported
