Slightly bizarre story this - why would some random male passers-by take the side of the driver to the extent that they viciously assaulted the two women?

Suspect there's something big that's not in the story, whether or not it's in the women's favour.

Nurse injured after man 'dragged her from taxi across Cambridge market square'

The injured woman's friend was also thrown to the ground, the pair say

Two nurses have told how they were thrown to the ground in Cambridge's market square by a stranger.

The pair, who did not wish to be named, had decided to get a taxi home after a night out in the city at around 4.30am on December 21.

But after a disagreement with a taxi driver over how to pay for the journey, the night took a aurn that ended in one nurse suffering cuts, bruises and two black eyes.

Her friend explained: "As we got to the taxi the driver asked us not to take food with us. We were holding a burger inside a closed box.

"We then threw the food away as per his request. It accidentally hit him but he didn't seem too bothered by this.

"Then he proceeded to ask for money upfront. We then argued that if he has a meter he shouldn't be asking for money upfront."

She said the situation began to escalate when other people around the market square got involved. The nurse continued: "As we argued with the driver some people approached the taxi.

"A young man started to argue with us as well. We then asked him why was he joining the conversation. We asked him not to get involved.

"He then seemed quite angry that we dared to ask him this.

"He stole my phone from my hands, dragged my friend from the taxi and threw her on the floor and hit her.

"I can't recall much but my friend has two black eyes, bruises all over her along with cuts and scratches.

"I tried to defend my friend and he threw me on the floor as well, then he ran with my phone before dropping it on the floor. The taxi driver ran away as well and so did the man's friends."

The nurses said they were helped by some women in the market square and described the incident as "extremely worrying".

What police say

A spokesman for Cambridgeshire Constabulary said: "We were called at 11.39am on Friday (December 21) with reports of an earlier assault on two woman in Market Square, Cambridge.

"At about 4am the women were attacked by a man when they were getting into a taxi. One of the women received minor injuries as a result of the incident.

"Anyone with information regarding this incident should call police on 101 quoting 35/53869/18 or visit http://www.cambs.police.uk/report. Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111 or via http://www.crimestoppers-uk.org.

Where did they throw it so it 'accidentally' hit the driver. The mind boggles #-o

As I said, a lot more to this than meets the eye 8-[

Well your recollection of other people's actions seems quite clear, it appears you don't seem to remember your actions.

Interesting.

If I was a betting man I would guess other drivers got involved.
