Plymouth taxi driver loses licence for ripping off and abusing customers

https://www.plymouthherald.co.uk/news/p ... ce-2546649

Servet Bayar had his appeal dismissed

A taxi driver who had his licence revoked for overcharging and abusing customers has had an appeal against the decision dismissed.

Hackney Carriage driver Servet Bayar, 30, of Taunton Avenue, had his licence taken away from him by the city’s Taxi Licensing Committee last August following seven complaints around overcharging, failure to negotiate a fare and abusive behaviour towards a passenger between October 2017 and February 2018.

Magistrates today dismissed the appeal and ordered Bayer to pay court costs of £2,696.98 which he has been given three months to pay.

His licence was revoked by Plymouth City Council’s taxi licensing committee.

Plymouth Magistrates' Court heard that the committee took into account these complaints and concluded that Mr Bayar was no longer a ‘safe and suitable’ person to hold a licence and revoked his Hackney Carriage licence.

The court also heard that even after Mr Bayar’s revocation in August 2018, further complaints were received by the Taxi Licensing Team between September 2018 and February 2019.

Speaking after the hearing, Councillor Sally Haydon, the Cabinet Member for Customer Focus and Community Safety said: “This result shows that the decision made by the committee was the right decision when it comes to the council’s main aim, which is protecting the public.

"Taxis play a key part in our public transport system and provide a door-to-door service which is relied upon by a significant number of users.

“People need to feel confident that when they get a licensed vehicle, the driver will be fair and polite and they will feel safe."

Presumably he was driving while his case was under appeal?

Looks that way, and looks like the f***wit didn't mend his ways even during the appeal timescale.

Some people are really beyond help.
