When I saw the other story about the PHV plying for hire wondered whether Aintree actually in the Liverpool City Council area. But since the Merseyside Police tweet in the article said to report stuff to the Liverpool Licensing 'on site' then assumed that meant Aintree was in Liverpool CC.

But apparently it's actually in the Sefton MBC area. (Not that it makes a lot of difference either way as regards a Salford-plate PHV plying for hire there.)

So all a bit confusing, but had a look on Liverpool Licensing's twitter feed, and looks like Liverpool HCs allowed to rank at Aintree (possibly because it's private land), so that maybe explains why the Liverpool Licensing unit is working in Sefton - presumably some enforcement protocol in force.

And despite the licensing unit's best efforts to protect the identities, obviously the HCV in that colour wouldn't be difficult for anyone in the know to identify.

In fact in response to the licensing unit's tweet someone actually suggests a registration number and says he's a cherry picker - who'd have thunk it?

Aintree - massive police presence every year, especially after the bomb threats. Police are brought in from everywhere in Merseyside, so only the biggest idiots going would go anywhere near the place with bald tyres. 90% of it is in Sefton but Aintree does border the Liverpool boundary. I have sent in a copy of the Aintree taxi plan and map if someone on TDO wants to display it.

Not sure what penalties the Merseyside drivers will face for the illegal tyres, but this is from the Nottingham community protection officers' twitter feed (the CPOs in Nottingham seem to undertake taxi enforcement activities).

EXPENSIVE PARKING. Poor parking lead to a vehicle exam for a Wolverhampton PHV driver, during which both the vehicle's front tyres were found to be illegal. Today at Nottm Magistrates Court he had fines / costs imposed totalling £1098 & his licence was endorsed.

The Magistrates said that they had increased the fine from the standard level by 25% as the driver had been carrying passengers.

Or spammed out.

However if you play around with this map you will see basically the racecourse borders Liverpool, so any Liverpool hackney can sit/rank/pick up on any road to the south of the racecourse.

some of those tyres were shocking but one photo was of a tyre down to the wear marks and that should surely have been a warning and told to go and get it done not a suspension surely ?

Is Liverpool's insistence on no Dual door signage a restraint of trade ?

They are saying in effect that drivers can only work for one app which I think is unfair

Aren't drivers supposed to deposit their paper council license with the operator for whom they will be working?

In theory maybe, but in 2019 a copy should suffice, especially if you work with more than one operator.

1976 Act. Section 56 Operators of private hire vehicles

(3) Every person to whom a licence in force under section 55 of this Act has been
granted by a district council shall keep such records as the council may, by condition
attached to the grant of the licence, prescribe of the particulars of any private hire
vehicle operated by him and shall produce the same on request to any authorised
officer of the council or to any constable for inspection

Keeping a record doesn't necessarily mean keeping original documents.
