New taxi firm launches in the West Wight

A NEW taxi service is to start operating in the West Wight.

Britta Aggar is launching her own service, I cab, working from Freshwater from May 1.

She is a familiar face in Yarmouth having worked front of house at The George Hotel and The Bugle Coaching Inn over the last eight years.

Britta said: "Over the years, with the late hours I have done, I have found that I could not get a cab home for love nor money in the West Wight.

"I am hoping this service will be available at the right time and the right place.

"In time, I would like to have another cab on the road to help me out, but I will see how the business takes off.

"Recently, I have been working with Alpha Cabs in Newport to learn the ropes and the drivers, both male and female, have been fantastic.

"It is quite funny because when I turn up late at night to take home a group of lads they are quite intimidated when I jump out of the cab. They are shocked to see a female driver, even in this day and age they see that as a novelty.

"But they are great and, as I am a female driver, the elderly seem to trust me because they feel I am more patient.

"It's been a long haul to get this far, so I am thankful for the people who have supported me behind the scenes."

Not sure if it's wishful thinking on her part, but get the impression from this that she seems to think she's safer because she's a woman? Suppose you could argue that either way...

Had a feeling when started reading the piece that as a woman driver she'd be healing the sick, parting the oceans, feeding the hungry blah, blah...

Maybe she could get a job in Hull and sort out all the scrotes up there

Clearly not for me to argue with the lady experiences, but IMO lady drivers at night suffer far more than male drivers.

She might need to do that cos the IoW is very very seasonal.

The way I read it she will be working some very long hours if she is taking the pensioners out during the day and the drunks home late at night.
