Wouldn't normally bother with taxi rank fights unless the driver is involved, but this is more like home turf for me, and there's still the murder trial to come for the Dundee rank hoohah five months ago.

Slightly surprising this though, because Broughty Ferry is the posh suburb of Dundee (maybe a bit like Hove is to Brighton), therefore less likely for this kind of thing to happen, but at the end of the day...

Champions League final probably a factor, with pubs busier than usual, thus more people waiting for taxis, and the English accent of one of the perps may be a factor, because Dundee isn't normally overrun with people with English accents.

In fact there were two major rammies in central Dundee a few hours earlier at about the time the match was finishing, and one of them was about one hundred yards from the site of the taxi rank murder at the new year

Man suffers 'serious' head and facial injuries after alleged assault at Broughty Ferry taxi rank

A 55-year-old man was allegedly assaulted by two men who had jumped a taxi queue in Broughty Ferry on Sunday.

The incident, in which the man was punched in the face and kicked on the ground, took place at the Brook Street taxi rank at around 2.30am.

He suffered head and facial injuries as a result.

Police are looking to trace two men in connection with the incident.

The first is described as white, in his 40s, stocky build with dark hair, wearing a dark puffa-style sleeveless jacket over a white shirt, and with a northern English accent.

The second man is also described as white, in his 40s, medium build with a shaved or bald head, and wearing a white shirt.

A statement from a police spokesperson said: “The area was still busy around this time with people heading home after their Saturday night out, and we would like to hear from anyone who witnessed any part of what happened at the taxi rank.”

Just like when you've queued at a supermarket till for 10 minutes, then they open another till just when you get to the front

Complaints over transport after massive concert at Coventry venue

Spice Girls fans reportedly fought over taxis amid chaotic scenes after the band's Midland gig.

Tempers were said to have frayed after a second queue was opened when concert-goers had already been waiting for 45 minutes.

Nicola Sargeant, who was at the Ricoh Arena date in Coventry on Tuesday night, said the move led to "everyone fighting over taxis" and "vulnerable girls" were "left stranded for hours".

She said there were also problems with stewards wrongly telling visitors that all trains had been cancelled. In reality, operator West Midlands Railway laid on extra carriages for a late-night service to allow for extra passengers.

The firm apologised for the "misleading information".

Spice Girls fan Nicola posted on Twitter: "We were told ALL trains cancelled for the night by seven, yes seven, stewards. Over a two-hour period in which we stood in line for a taxi with many, many others with tickets."

She later told BirminghamLive: "Taxi queue - was queuing for 45 mins and then the security opened another queue which then led to everyone fighting over taxis. So many vulnerable girls left stranded for hours."

I don't understand this queueing for taxis round here even on new years eve there is usually 10 to 20 minimum waiting

maybe our councils stated policy of ensuring that there are enough taxis to ensure even on the busiest nights there is availability is different than elsewhere

However is anyone surprised that they have to wait at the end of a concert of 30,000 people?
