This all seems well over the top, and makes yesterday's piece about the Old Trafford rank seem an interesting read.
But it all becomes a bit clearer at the end, when it's stated that the article is sourced from the local HC association.
Not sure whether or not it's a good thing that the website has run this - doubt if many people will read it, and maybe a shorter version would have been more 'accessible' to the general public (see what I did there?

Nottingham Taxi Rank changes because of construction work at Loxley Househttps://westbridgfordwire.com/nottingha ... ley-house/The Rank to be temporarily closed is on the left hand side of Trent Street. Changes to the arrangements for picking disabled passengers in wheelchairs are therefore necessary.
Image: West Bridgford WireConstruction work at Loxley House on Trent Street in the City Centre is starting today, Thursday 22nd August.
This will temporarily put out of action one of the two Licensed Taxi Ranks on Trent Street until conclusion of the construction works. The Rank to be temporarily closed is on the left hand side of Trent Street. Changes to the arrangements for picking disabled passengers in wheelchairs are therefore necessary.
All licensed taxis in Nottingham are adapted for ease of access by all disabled people, whether needing wheelchair access or not, as part of the commitments of the City Council and the Nottingham Licensed Taxi Owners and Drivers Association to disabled people and equality. Naturally the adaptation for wheelchair access must be on the normal pavement side – the left side – of taxis.
Image: West Bridgford WireFollowing extensive discussions over several weeks between the Association and the Council’s Traffic Department Network Management Team, it has been agreed that the only safe practical solution is for the Disabled Passengers Taxi Bay on Trent Street to be relocated. It will be moved just around the corner onto the beginning of Station Street, to the previously existing short general pick up and set down bay immediately outside the Loxley House Entrance.
The first licensed taxi in the Rank on the right hand side of Trent Street can, immediately upon being hailed by a disabled person in a wheelchair, move across the road to the new Disabled Passengers Taxi Bay to enable safe access.
Image: West Bridgford WirePrivate cars and private hire cars should therefore no longer use the previously existing general pick up and set down bay immediately outside the Loxley House Entrance. Private hire cars are not adapted to meet the needs of disabled people. Being private, by their nature they are not part of Nottingham’s public transport system, as taxis are.
The Council’s enforcement and compliance officers will be aware of this change in status of the bay, from the previous use, to use as a Disabled Passengers Taxi Bay.
Wasim Amin, Chair of the Committee of Nottingham Licensed Taxi Owners and Drivers Association, said he is grateful to Paul Boulton, the City’s Head of Traffic, and Liz Hiskens, the Head of Traffic Network Management and her Team, for their very practical help in this relocation.
Image: West Bridgford WireAnne Darby, Chair of the Disability Involvement Group, said they were made aware of this change and look forward to better permanent arrangements being provided for disabled people to travel to and from the station and Loxley House, and also to more easily access the building.
This information is being made available by the Association to the local press to enable the public to help taxi drivers to continue to help disabled people.
The Nottingham Licensed Taxi Owners and Drivers Association was established many years ago. Membership is by its Constitution open to all owners and drivers of the 411 licensed taxis in Nottingham as their representative organisation. The Committee and Officers are elected by the membership; they and individual members represent the interests of licensed taxis in Nottingham, and work together with the City Council for the general good of the public.
