Masked shotgun gang hold up taxi carrying inmate and prison officers outside jail

Four men surrounded the car as it left the prison but it is believed they targeted the wrong inmate

A masked shotgun gang stopped a taxi carrying an inmate and prison officers as it left a jail.

It was reported that at around 10.30am on Tuesday morning, a taxi was leaving HMP Forest Bank when a car pulled in front of it and stopped it in the middle of the road.

A prisoner, who had just been released from the Salford jail, was travelling in the taxi with two officers and a driver, when they were surrounded.

According to Manchester Evening News , a source said that four men, two armed with shotguns, stood around the car and looked into the windows, before leaving just moments later.

The person said: "The taxi had just left the prison and was turning right to head back into Manchester. A car pulled across the taxi blocking its way.

"Two masked men got out. One with a shotgun. Inside the taxi were two members of staff from a company escorting a former prisoner to an approved accommodation, the prisoner, who had just been released, and the driver of the taxi.

"The former prisoner was being moved to a half way house. He was being escorted to it as he was deemed a high risk.

"It was very frightening for the staff and the taxi driver.

"The men looked inside the taxi - apparently to check the identity of the former prisoner - then backed off, and got back in their car and drove off.

"The assumption is that he was not the man they were after."

It is understood the incident was on Agecroft Road, near to Agecroft cemetery - opposite a service road which leads to and from the prison.

Bosses at the prison were alerted immediately after the incident in case the kidnappers' true target was about to leave.

Matt Spencer, Director at HMP Forest Bank, said: “I can confirm an incident occurred this morning outside HMP Forest Bank but it would be inappropriate to comment further while a police investigation is underway.”

In a statement GMP said: "At around 10.26am this morning (Tuesday 29 October 2019), police were called to reports of suspicious circumstances at HMP Forest Bank, Swinton.

"Initial enquiries have established that four men – at least two of which were armed with guns – surrounded a vehicle as it left the premises.

"After approaching the vehicle, the men made off.

"No injuries were reported to police and no arrests have been made.

"Enquiries are ongoing."

Anyone with information should contact police on 101, quoting incident 789 of 29/10/19. Reports can also be made anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

This is one of the comments on the Echo's website. Not sure if it's genuine or just some blowhard sitting in his mum's bedroom in his underpants playing the plassy gangster type

Sound about right in a way, on the other hand if he had genuine knowledge about this sort of stuff then you'd think the last thing he'd be doing is giving the inside track on the Echo's website, so who knows? :?

Ha ha ha. Just had a chat with a firm of out of towners (heavy, heavy kids this lot). Heard that when they seen the taxi they thought it was a bit odd but thought "their boy" was definitely in the car when they approached with the shotties. Anyway the second the get close they see this BACON in the car and knew they got it wrong. One of them wanted to kidnap the BACON but other lad talked him out of it cos it would have been on top to take a [edited by admin] in clear day. Anyway the kid they meant to free is absolutely fumin that he's gotta stay in The Bank over Xmas but also saw the funny side. Ha ha ha mad!

I suspect this another wind up merchant if you are involved in a gang you don't stick your neck out like that

The police will probably catch up with him and the blokes with a shot gun hopefully
