Taxi driver is up to the challenge

A Watford taxi driver has won the right to legally challenge plans to remove all curbs on the issue of local cab licences, which he says could spell "total disruption" to the local trade.

Shujait Ahmed Sardar - chairman of the Watford Hackney Carriage Drivers' Association - has lodged his judicial review challenge alongside two colleagues, Tariq Aziz and Shafiq Ahmed, over controversial plans to "delimit" the issue of cab licences in the town.

Mr Sardar, of Woodside, Watford, claims the proposal would bring commercial havoc to the 73 existing licence holders, swamping the market with new cab drivers despite the lack of sufficient local demand.

After a brief hearing, Mr Justice Bean ruled Mr Sardar's case "arguable", also ordering that the case be heard as soon as possible.

In the meantime, an injunction will remain in place, freezing the number of licences at their current tally.

One wonders if Rowan Atkinson had a hand in this?

Will Mr Sardar use the Dublin defence, or the Wirral opening or perhaps the Gravesham Gambit? His strategy will no doubt be unique and well thought out, because he sounds like a man who knows what he is doing? His bold attitude reminds me of Boris Spassky or even a Kasparov, no doubt he is aware that the stakes are high and to the winner goes the spoils and to the loser a hefty legal bill. That won't bother a man of Mr Sardar's ability because he obviously thinks he can go where no man has gone before? lol

Just like Neil Armstrong before him, Mr. Sardar "is going to take one small step for man" and when he wakes up from his dream, he'll be a little wiser and a lot poorer but at least he would have tried.

Regards

JD
