Bit of a non-story this unless you didn't read the original one about the PHD lying on the road in protest after getting 'soaked' by water pistols during the HCDs' kids' outing.

Which has obviously skewed the number of official complaints lodged with the council, and therefore partly explains the increase in complaints made.

Anyway, the video of the incident is on the website if anyone hasn't seen it. Certainly worth a look if you haven't

'Buffoon' who blocked Taxi Outing parade led to 75 complaints to Edinburgh city council

A report shows the extent of the anger many felt at the driver's bizarre protest. It also highlights an increase in complaints about taxis and private hire cars.

A private hire car driver who infamously blocked the Edinburgh Kids Taxi Outing led to 75 individual complaints being submitted to Edinburgh city council.

The council is responsible for regulating taxi and private hire drivers and can remove licences for poor conduct.

A new report going before councillors shows there has been an increase in the number of complaints about drivers in Edinburgh, with 1231 recorded between January and November 2019.

There were 1061 complaints throughout the whole of 2018.

The private hire driver who lay down in front of the childrens' taxi parade in June 2019 was branded a buffoon and widely mocked on social media.

He was angered at being splashed with a water bomb by one of the children, despite this being a long-running tradition.

The Taxi Outing is a charity event where sick and vulnerable children are treated to a free day out courtesy of the capital's cab drivers.

His actions led to organisers reviewing the use of water bombs at the parade, as well as 75 complaints to the council

The report said: "Members also may be aware that the Council regularly receives multiple complaints in relation to one single incident.

"For example, a high-profile incident during the ‘Taxi Outing’ in June 2019 attracted significant media and social media attention. This resulted in the council receiving 75 complaints in relation to this single incident.

"Similarly the council receives a significant level of complaints in respect of activities of both taxis and PHCs at the airport, and this again is reflected in the figures."

It's understood the council investigated the man's actions but the outcome has not been discussed publicly.

The local authority said it would not comment on individual cases.

Footage of the driver's bizarre protest was shared thousands of times on social media.

A video posted on Facebook by Sheila Purvis shows the driver run onto the road and lie down, preventing the brightly-decorated vehicles from moving any further.

When he's confronted about his actions, still lying on the ground, he says "I'm not having this - they soaked me in water deliberately."

A cab driver tries to reason with him before the police officer demands he get off the road.

His protests fall on deaf ears as he gets up, with the officer simply saying "aww" in response to his tale of being soaked.

Commenting on the video, councillor Mark Brown tweeted: "Quite incredible scenes captured at today's Edinburgh Taxi Outing where one rival cab driver took the hump about getting skooshed (like 100's of others!) and lay down in front of the procession.

"You Sir, are a first class buffoon."

many years ago on the day of the annual float parade I got hit in the face whilst driving by a squirt from a water pistol it did temporarily blind me and I nearly hit a tree so I can understand the annoyance firing water pistols at vehicles is not safe

You mean hit by a squirt squirting a water pistol, or hit by a squirt from a squirt

Indeed, *potentially* dangerous, but I think the Edinburgh PHD was out of the car at the time, which is why his t-shirt got soaked

One has to wonder exactly how many more articles can the press get out of this fella having a rest in the road.

Yes he shouldn't have done it, but it's hardly the crime of the century.
