You really couldn't make it up !!!!

Council decide they want to make the pavement wider, to allow people to social distance whilst out shopping, but in doing so tarmac over a taxi rank that has been in place for a least 20 years to make a pathway.

No consultation with the trade, no traffic order, no nothing. Other than a complete and utter contempt of the trade from elements of B&H Council. [-X

There's a lot of that kind of stuff going on up and down the country. Road narrowing, cycle lanes, road closures etc.

No doubt some is well-meaning, but suspect a lot of them just using Covid-19 as a cover for their anti-car crusade.

Our main night rank is a temporary bus stop at the moment, which isn't a problem because there's very few taxis around, obviously. But not sure what they're doing at the bus stop area round the corner.

And the pavement adjacent to the rank is narrow, so I'm just hoping they don't have any designs on the rank :?

I have a feeling that one of ours may go in the next couple of weeks to allow for outside tables at a pub.

I have a feeling that B&H council will be getting grief for this for the next 20 years.

Same thing happening up here,Council claim agreement with businesses but excluded 180+ businesses(hackney carriage proprietors) from any consultations.

Don't forget there is NO legal requirement for them to provide taxi ranks

But when a Rank is provided, there are rules about taking it away or making changes.

I have just had an email from our Council. They will be closing the road opposite the taxi rank so the rank remains open. There is a special entry to this road for buses and taxis but this will be closed for now.

Indeed.

But there is a legal requirement a council must follow when removing one.

If they close a road then there is nothing stopping them moving the rank to just outside of the closed bit.

You couldn't make it up again.

They take the rank away under emergency covid-19 rules to allow for folks to walk more safely, and then allow a cafe to put table and chairs out. ](*,) ](*,) ](*,) ](*,) ](*,) ](*,) ](*,) ](*,) ](*,) ](*,) ](*,) ](*,)
