New taxi service launches at Peterborough station

A new taxi service for train passengers to help them get to and from the station has been launched.

The new Cab&Go service is available for passengers to pre-book a taxi to or from all East Midlands Railway stations, including Peterborough.

Anyone booking tickets on the East Midlands Railway website, can also book a taxi for either the start or end of their journey. An up-front quote is provided, giving passengers peace of mind as there’s no metre running.

The service is designed particularly for those passengers who want the security of knowing that there will be a cab waiting for them, especially at the other end of their rail journey, to safely convey them to their final destination.

Due to Covid-19, EMR is asking passengers to keep their distance from people outside your household whilst at taxi ranks, where possible.

Neil Grabham, Customer Services Director for EMR said: “The new Cab&Go service makes it even easier for our passengers to plan journeys by public transport from door-to-door.

“With no cash or meters to worry about, it’s the simplest way to get to and from the station.”

there is no shortage of Hackneys at Peterborough so unless you don't know the station why would you bother ?

I suspect this is more to do with the franchise holder looking to make a bit of commission on sales than a genuine need for the service

So do they need an operator license ?

For licensing purposes, it does not make any difference how a booking is made - companies providing booking offices, telephone booking lines, websites or app bookings must all be licensed. According to Dacorum Council

Cab&Go is a registered trademark and logo used by Abellio East Midlands Railway Limited and subsequently licensed to CMAC, with permission and in partnership with Abellio Greater Anglia Limited.

We are the most expensive in the town and our price would be £3.80. Mind you at the moment there are no trains arriving at that time.

You could walk that in under 10 minutes !

seriously though this to me is a cynical cash grab by the rail franchise

Neither of these have these from what I could find are licensed private hire operators which makes one think that what they are doing or propose to do is not within the law.
If the example given was proposing to use a TAXI that definitely falls foul of overcharging.

Not if the customer has accepted the quote as it is a booking not a flag down or rank hire

I suppose it would depend on how long it took to cross over at the lights but walking it can't be much more than half a mile a bit further by taxi because of the one way

Rubbish. A hackney carriage is always a hackney carriage and has to use, and charge no more than the metered fare when working within the district.
