‘Death trap’ Tuk Tuks taken off the road by police
Two “death trap” Tuk Tuks were taken off Derbyshire roads last weekend.
The three-wheeled vehicles were seized in Matlock on Sunday, August 30
They were pulled over on the A6 Dale Road by Derbyshire’s Road Policing Unit for operating on an incorrect insurance policy.
The Twitter page wrote: “Not something you see every day. A pair of Tuk Tuks seized by Matlock officers.
"Uninsured death traps, please don't use them.”
Tuk Tuks, also known as rickshaws, are legal to drive in the UK if they abide by strict laws, such as having the correct form of insurance.
They are popular choices for transport in densely-packed urban areas, especially in South Asia and Africa.
They can be motorised or powered by pedals in the same manner as bicycles.
