To be fair, he wouldn't have done any better on any of the other ranks. It's the station rank, not far from where he lives. Nearest other ranks in are in town, about six miles from where he lives, therefore...
And doubt if he really came out to make money so much - maybe just to get out of the house and away from family for a few hours during lockdown.
Quite a good way round lockdown, in a way, at least if you're not that bothered about making any money.
And he works quite long shifts, so wouldn't surprised if he spends eight hours a day just sitting on the rank at the best of times, watching videos on tablet etc.
Doubt if he was working long shifts during lockdown, so in reality what he was doing probabaly not a whole lot different to what he does normally
