Well, it looks like a fairly bleak year ahead due to the forth coming smoking ban due on the 26th of March, Nearly every punter that I know smokes and they have said that if the cannot have a fag with there pint they will stay at home, and if that happens there will be hardly any work, and then the pubs will close so we in Scotland could be reduced to day time running only.
There is one daft thing that is coming in and that is there will be no smoking in taxis by the driver, or in a confind space (open windows not confind,Yet one of the ruels says that if your self employed you may do so
Look it up and try and make sence of it :?: :?: :?: :?:

I'm not that sure a smoking ban will kill your trade, most of those that smoke yes, the trade no. :-s

Hi
I agree wtih you Mike. I am in Dublin a lot and the companies I deal with are getting busier. Its fantastic going out in the evenings and not choking to death in a pub due to the smoke.

Peoples views will change in Scotand. If they want a cig then they will do what is done in Ireland, they will go outside and have one then come back in.

Ireland has been thru it all and survied. Role on March.

regards

But the worst thing is when a punter stands outside your cab, taking the deepest of breath drawing in the smoke, putting his fag out with his fingers with doors open and wind blowing, red ash going into the cab, the punter gets in and exhales the smoke into your face as he tells you where he is going

i agree with you lads. i have had passangers in my car from ireland and they have said that it has made no diff to trade in pubs and clubs. so it would follow that trade wont fall away.

just cant see why this will stop people going out after all the local bus firms have a no smoking ban and so do most work places now and people still travel to there work on a bus and dont smoke in there work they stand out side for a smoke just like they will do if they go out at night.

I cannot under stand this, I have had a punter who went to Ireland for the new year and she stayed at a small town where there was 12 pubs now there are only 3 open due to the ban and she is a smoker and by the end of her holiday she was [edited by admin] off at having to go out side.
I know for a fact that there will be pub closers in Scotland and many job loses due to the ban

how can you know for a fact when the event has not taken place yet??.

i had a passanger in my car from ireland who said the complete opposite to your passanger. He was a smoker and liked the no somking policy he said that he did not mind it at all. infact he went outside the hotel where i picked him up from to have a smoke as it was just habbit for him now.

i think we will just have to wait and see. but the truth is that smoking is now a anti social habit and if the lads across the water are still making the same cash and the pubs are still full the policy must be working and can you see no one going out for a pint or to a night club mmmmmmmmmmm think not.

As i said there are no smoking bans in shops, buses, work places etc etc and people still use these services and they still go to work and people dont smoke in my cab they ask if they can and when i say no they are ok with it and they still use the service i provide.

it will just take time for people to get used to the change but it will not have the effect that you think it will

dundee council sent out letters this week to operators not drivers? warning of £200 fines for letting passengers light up in their cab the rules have also been changed to no smoking in a taxi even if its not working this is probably to combat the few who when caught having a puff replied im not working im waiting on the wife despite sitting on a rank with the computer logged on, the vacancy for the job of enforcement officer has already been advertised both on website and news paper http://www.dundeecity.gov.uk/
go to the last one on emplyment oppertumites ,even though i will be taking a massive pay cut £17877-20169 i am prepared to take this job on
and will be open to back handers whether it be publican hotelier or cabbie
me and my collegues will be wearing the usual grey suits and will be carrying clipboards which will be visible from several hundred yards ps i will be needing a driver to cover my shift £150 dayshift plus smoke as much as you want

OK so there is to be no smoking in taxis, well according to rule 11 exemptions, If you own the vehicle and you are the only driver you can smoke, also how do you interpret an enclosed space windows up , windows down, or even sun roof for that mater
It is going to be a nightmare to enforce

Maybe, maybe not. I would have thought all a licensing officer needs is a nose. :-k

I saw something in the Dundee papers a few weeks ago about the fact that some bus shelters would be included but others wouldn't because of the design. What a load of nonsense.

I suppose it will also depend on whether some neds (thats chavs to the south of the border mob :-o ) have kicked in the glass or not :D

So kick the glass in and you get to smoke in the bus shelter :?
