This article is from 2016, and I'm 99% certain I posted it before, but can't find it now, and it's doing my nut in

Piece is mainly about a serious accident the offender caused as a trucker, but he's a former HCD, who worked the ranks in St Andrews about 20 years ago. He lost his badge after several gruesome sex attacks on passengers, as mentioned towards the end of the article :?

'Throw the book at him' ... amputee hits out after paedo lorry driver admits causing horror crash that maimed him

NEIL Black has suffered a "year of hell" due to William Brierley's recklessness and now he wants the courts to hammer the convicted sex attacker.

A DRIVER who lost his arm in a horror smash after a trucker with a string of sex offence convictions crashed into a low bridge today said: "I want the book thrown at him".

William Brierley is facing a lengthy jail term over the smash that left Neil Black with life-changing injuries.

Forfar Sheriff Court heard how Brierley - who has been convicted of sex offences on three separate occasions, including once for attacking a 15-year-old girl while she suffered an epileptic fit - ignored warning signs before the crash on March 30 last year.

Brierley was driving a Mercedes lorry towing a 4.39 metre tall trailer on the A92 between Arbroath and Montrose on March 30 last year.

He approached the Inverkeilor railway bridge - only 4.26 metres tall - ignoring warning signs on the roadside and bridge itself as well as a flashing warning light activated when he drove towards it in the huge truck.

The lorry then collided with the bridge and caused a head on crash with Mr Black's Volkswagen Golf.

Mr Black, 31, today told how he had undergone a year of hell since the crash - first losing six pints of blood on the way to hospital before going into a coma.

Medics were stunned that he survived - though he ultimately lost his right arm as a result.

Mr Black said: "I want the book thrown at him. If it was me who had been driving the lorry, his family would want it thrown in my face.

"It was all his fault and down to his own negligence and stupidity. Now I have to live my life with one arm. Prosthetics are no use to me because the shoulder has fused.

"I don't look to get anything from anyone but if that was me who was driving I would be riddled with guilt and try my best to make sure I could help him or his family in any way possible.

"He hasn't done anything - he hasn't even said sorry."

Mr Black added: "My left foot was hanging on by the skin - I needed a fixator fitted for six weeks.

"I had 10 broken ribs on my right side, a punctured lung, my right shoulder was smashed, I had a fractured skull and bleeding on the brain.

"I also had a broken nose and cuts to my face and left hand. My right arm was wrapped around the passenger seat and my back was against the passenger door.

"My seat belt completely snapped off with the force of the impact. I was awake at the scene and all the way to hospital and I lost six pints of blood.

"I needed to have three blood transfusions before I was operated on, and my scalp was deroofed. It has affected me in every way but I have learned to train my brain again.

"I had never realised about phantom limb pain before it happened but when I woke up from my coma I could feel every injury I had on my arm that wasn't there.

"With a broken leg the pain stops after a while but this went on for months and is still going on to this day."

Brierley, 54, of Dundee, pleaded guilty to a charge of dangerous driving. Defence solicitor Gary McIlravey told Forfar Sheriff Court he would reserve his plea in mitigation to a later sentencing date.

He added: "He has allowed his HGV licence to lapse."

Sheriff Gregor Murray deferred sentence until next month for social work background reports and banned Brierley from the road meantime. He was released on bail in the meantime.

Brierley's previous convictions revealed he has been convicted of sexual offences on three occasions.

In 2001 he was given probation at Cupar Sheriff Court over charges of shameless indecency and sexual assault committed on women while he was working as a taxi driver.

Then, in 2002, he again dodged jail over horror sexual attacks on a 15-year-old epileptic girl while she was having a fit.

Brierley had been instructed to pick up the teenager from her home to take her to a doctor's appointment. He found her lying on the floor of her house in Tayport, Fife, with her eyes closed. The girl came round to find Brierley standing over her and fondling her upper body.

Then in 2008 Brierley was jailed for 32 months at Dundee Sheriff Court after he was convicted of three sexually aggravated assaults.

Brierley had been spared a six-month disqualification under the totting-up procedure for motoring offences because the sheriff thought a ban might jeopardise his rehabilitation.

However, an Appeal Court ruled that Brierley should have been treated like any other motorist, and not gain any benefit from his record for serious sexual crimes.

Brierley had appeared at Perth Sheriff Court in May 2005 and admitted a charge of careless driving, doing up to 42mph in a 30mph area in a bakery delivery lorry and driving over, rather than around, a mini roundabout.

So does anyone on here with a good memory have any recollection of this?

Have used the search function on all the obvious words like Brierley, amputated/amputee, Montrose/Inverkeillor, but nothing's coming up :?

I'm guessing I maybe just posted a link to the article rather than the full text, which is why the search fuction on here isn't finding anything.

Either that or I'm going crazy 8-[

It's not even picked up with a google site search, and that picks up everything from day 1.

I was certain I'd posted it in the last couple of years, so it would be picked up by the site's search function (which I think goes back about seven years).

But obviously I hadn't posted it. Maybe I'd mentioned it elsewhere, or maybe just intended posting it, but forgot :-s

Anyway, not sure how comprehensive Google's index is, because I've recently tried searching for some early pieces on here with distinctive words and names, but nothing comes up [-(

Yes, I tried looking for some distinctive words on some very old posts, but nothing was coming up.

I think stuff comes and goes from the Google index, so could be something to do with that, but it's certainly not 100% comprehensive.

Anyway, I was just looking for an old post regarding fare dodging in Scotland, and abduction etc.

See my other news article.
