As we know they have always been a private hire operator and should have operated under the same rules as every other operator in the UK.

But hasn't Uber's recent acquisition of Autocab already (when it goes live) changed the model?

Autocab have never claimed to be an operator or provider of p/hire vehicles/driver, only a booking/dispatch system.

Indeed, but the VAT liabilities that Uber might be facing from HMRC, will not apply to Autocab as they are only a despatch company.

Any liabilities from work despatched via the Autocab platform will apply to the operators or the drivers.

So Uber could mitigate any further liabilities by using the Autocab platform.

That is why I said a few weeks ago existing autocab users will have to pay vat on all of their bookings, this probably has opened a can of worms regarding existing operators and the vat man.

Only if their turnover exceeds the VAT threshold. We have to account for VAT on 100% of the income from our employed drivers.

Not necessarily if the driver takes the payment into his bank account and then pays the operator either a fixed weekly fee, or a % of the job.

In that case the driver is the principal and liable for any VAT if he exceed the minimum amount, and the operator is the agent.
