A Peterborough taxi firm has pledged that it will not raise prices for anyone using their cars over the Christmas period.

Goldstar Diamond Cars has made the offer as a gesture of good will to customers and as a way of recognising that it has been a tough year for everybody.

The firm, based in Fengate, has been very supportive of the local community during the pandemic and this offer comes after it has already announced a lifelong 25 per cent discount to NHS workers travelling to and from work.

Manager Faz Ali said: “This is something we are doing for our community.

“Normally, across the Christmas period all taxi companies put up their prices, especially on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

“We will be standing out from the rest though and only charging our usual flat rate.

“This year has been difficult for everyone, for us and for our customers. We are doing this as a thank you to them for staying strong through these tough times and to show that as a community we all stand together.”

Or the rest will do the same and his sales gimmick will be totally pointless.

Unless he's relying on 'first mover advantage', as the economics experts might say :?

So if one of the rest does normal less 10% will the firm undercut them?

Absolute f***ing madness.

Last Christmas Day they were doing free runs for NHS staff. 150 jobs in total, according to them :-o

And, of course, that was all pre-Covid :-|

Of course, that would have been jobs NHS staff would normally have paid out of their own pockets, presumably, and nothing to do with the NHS trust's contract. But still...

Hope the drivers were well-tipped - somehow doubt the firm fully recompensed them for the jobs
