Calls for Kirklees taxi drivers to follow Uber and display purple badges to show they have been vaccinated

https://www.examinerlive.co.uk/news/wes ... w-20444494

Huddersfield MP Barry Sheerman says if it's good enough for Uber taxis then why shouldn't his constituents have the same protection

Huddersfield MP Barry Sheerman has called for a purple badge system to be introduced in Kirklees cabs to show passengers that drivers are fully vaccinated against coronavirus and tested once a week.

Mr Sheerman said: "If Uber can do this I don't see why my constituents should not have similar protection.

"It would be better if the local authority got involved but I would be happy to see the hackney carriage association in Kirklees organise their own system.

"There are different rules in different parts of the country but I think it is time we got something sorted out on this one.

, secretary of Huddersfield Hackney Carriage Association, said: "The public needs protection and so do we from the public.

"The cab area is very enclosed and most of the cabs in this area don't have the protection of hardened glass separating the driver from their fares.

"I am tested every week at Batley Library and for Huddersfield and Mirfield drivers it's the Hudawi Centre in Huddersfield.

"I don't think taxi drivers would object to such a scheme being imposed when it would help provide greater protection for all concerned but we will have to see."

Kirklees Council has been approached for comment.

So how's would this work? People walking past drivers on the rank because they're not eligible for the vaccine until much later than other drivers?

Or PHDs rolling up for a run and the passengers won't get in?

Sounds like a recipe for trouble [-(

(By the way, the missing name of the HCA secretary is an error on the Examiner's website.)

Does Uber actually have a formal scheme regarding anything like this, or is it down to individual drivers?

Can't see anything online :?

What an absolute f***wit.

Firstly Uber isn't a firm anyone should be following in respect of setting standards. [-X

Secondly not all drivers are allowed to get vaccinated at the moment, unless this MP has sorted a law that allows all over 18s to be vaccinated, or a law that allows all taxi drivers to be vaccinated.

Can't believe people actually voted for this fool. #-o

Think a better idea would be that passengers have to prove to driver that they have been vaccinated and have negative test before they are entitled to enter vehicle.
