Castleford taxi firm blacklist roads after man injured by rock hurled through window

A man from Castleford said he was left 'shaking' after the attack on the taxi he was in forced him to go to A&E.

And attacks on taxis in certain areas have become so bad the taxi firm he was using say they will blacklist certain roads in the evening.

Josh Couper, 19, was in the back of a taxi driving through Airedale on May 6 when a rock came flying through the window.

The rock shattered the window of the Cas Cars taxi and hit Josh in the arm, shocking him and his friend as well as the driver.

Josh told YorkshireLive: "I basically had a panic attack in the car just before I rang the police. I was in complete shock, I literally just froze. I was shaking and couldn't really catch my breath properly."

He called the police to Queen's Park Drive where the incident occurred, who quickly took down details.

Josh worried his arm had been fractured by the force of the rock hitting it, but after visiting A&E he was relieved to discover it was just swollen and bruised.

Josh was not the only one affected by the incident. Cas Cars said "action must be taken" against violence in the area.

"Tonight in Airedale another incident has happened again with a taxi while transporting a customer," the company wrote on Facebook.

"The customer was injured as a result. The driver has been left traumatised by the incident. This is an ongoing issue that is happening to taxis and buses on a daily basis.

"Due to this, any journeys going to or coming from the following areas listed below around Airedale, Ferry Fryston will be restricted at certain times on an evening for the safety of passengers and drivers."

The taxi service announced they would be stopping journeys on Queen's Park Drive and several roads in Ferry Fryston after multiple similar incidents.

Josh shared Cas Cars' feelings that something needs to be put in place to stop such anti-social behaviour, saying he's heard about lots of other people experiencing incidents like he did.

He said he was hoping to use the ordeal to get a neighbourhood watch scheme in place in Castleford and Airedale to crack down on the violence.

In the meantime, he warned that people should be careful heading out on an evening in Airedale and Ferry Fryston.

Josh said: "The plan is to reduce the amount of crime that is happening in Castleford and the surrounding areas. I hope it can be a nice and peaceful place to live."

Think it would good if the laws could be changed so that parents ended up with the compensation bills.

It's how they deal with youth crime in the USA.

Do not know if this would help in these situations or if it is correct. I was in a discussion with a police inspector many years ago, he told me if you can identify or catch the culprits you could claim off their parents household insurance.

I agree parents will think more carefully about watching their kids if they end up paying compo instead of 2 weeks on a Turkish beach !
