Taxi passengers in Craven urged to continue with face masks after 'freedom day'

https://www.cravenherald.co.uk/news/194 ... eedom-day/

CRAVEN District Council is recommending the continued use of face masks in taxis and private hire vehicles from Monday, even though it will no longer be a legal requirement.

The council, which is responsible for the licensing of taxis and private hire vehicles, said it was also urging drivers to continue with the use of hand sanitiser and to leave vehicle windows open.

Tim Chadwick, the council’s licensing manager, said “ From Monday, July 19 the wearing of face masks for members of the public in vehicles is at the discretion of taxi, private hire operators and drivers as there will no longer be a legal requirement to wear them.

"However given the government have recommended to continue to wear face masks in crowded public transport we would recommend their continued use.

“We are asking drivers to continue with the cleaning regimes established during Covid, and the continued use of hand sanitiser by drivers and passengers. It is recommended drivers continue keeping windows open to reduce the risk of transmission of Covid.”

The council will also ask its own staff to wear masks in communal areas in the Belle Vue Square offices and also members of the public visiting reception.

Paul Shevlin, chief executive, said: “Staff who can, will continue to work from home wherever possible unless business needs dictate otherwise and we will review this approach again in September.

“Even though wearing face masks indoors is not mandatory, we have a collective and corporate responsibility to keep everyone safe and so we have asked those staff who are working in the office to continue to wear face masks in common areas and whilst moving around the office.

“We will also appeal to members of the public to continue to wear face masks when they visit the customer service reception.”

This reads like there's no *recommendation* as regards drivers wearing masks from next week, and that they aren't *legally* required. Or at least that's my perception reading it from up here and not being 100% sure what the rules have been down south.

Are drivers in England currently required to wear masks?

Only TfL mandated taxi/PH drivers to wear masks, the rest followed Gov guidance saying it was a bloody good idea, but down to each drivers own risk assessment, or words to that effect.

Uber are to continue their 'no mask no ride' policy.

But don't mention if the mask requirement applies to drivers.

This is the relevant extract from a piece in the Bournemouth Echo. I'm sure Edders could adequately summarise all this in half-a-dozen words, but for lesser mortals like me this is all guaranteed to cause confusion. And conflict, potentially [-(

Face-covering policies for buses, trains, taxis and planes from July 19

https://www.bournemouthecho.co.uk/news/ ... s-july-19/

Taxi operator PRC streamline confirmed to the Echo that the decision will be very much up to the passenger's discretion and if they want the driver to wear one then they will.

Mobile Radio Cars in a statement to the Echo said that the taxi provider had received an “email from the town hall requesting that all taxi drivers carry on wearing a mask until we are told otherwise by the licencing board.”

Although they did not comment specifically on the passengers following government guidance it would come down to the public's decision as to whether they wear a covering or not.

United Taxis confirmed the council have asked them to carry on until the end of the school year with wearing face-coverings regardless and will encourage passengers to do so.

Director of United Taxis, Bruno Silva, told the Echo: "Taxi drivers are self-employed therefore all we will do is recommend every driver to have a mask in the car and have it on when passengers are on board.

"We must continue united against Covid-19. We can only urge the same from passengers to have a mask on and help towards prevention. We will continue to remind our drivers to keep sanitising their cars as they have been until now."

Really?

If I want someone to wear a mask in my car, then they will wear a mask in my car or they will get another car.

Typical out of touch operators. [-X
