Bembridge taxi driver accused of multiple rapes since 2013

A BEMBRIDGE taxi driver accused of multiple rapes on the Isle of Wight against six different women, spanning a period of almost nine years, appeared before Island magistrates this morning (Tuesday).

Frankie Vecsei, 25, of Egerton Road, Bembridge, faced nine charges of rape, between January 1, 2013, and August 23 this year.

He is also accused of sexually assaulting a female aged 13 years or over, by penetration, between November 1, 2012, and January 31, 2013.

He is alleged to have carried out the offences on the Isle of Wight, with three of the rapes alleged to have taken place at his current Bembridge address.

Mr Vecsei was remanded in custody to reappear for a plea and trial preparation hearing at the Isle of Wight Crown Court on April 12 next year.

Bembridge taxi driver's rape court case collapses

A TAXI driver accused of multiple rapes and a serious sexual offence has been cleared by a judge.

Frankie James Vecsei, 26, of Egerton Road, Bembridge, was cleared at Portsmouth Crown Court yesterday (Monday).

It comes after a total of ten mobile devices were seized and examined as part of the case.

Multiple forms of communication were then found between the complainants, the court heard.

On Monday the judge entered not guilty verdicts for Vecsei.

He was released from custody, where he had been held since October.

The taxi driver had previously denied nine charges of rape across the Isle of Wight, between January 1, 2013, and August 23 last year, when he appeared by video link from HMP Isle of Wight on November 21.

He had also pleaded not guilty to sexually assaulting a female aged 13 years or over, by penetration, between November 1, 2012, and January 31, 2013.

The trial had been set to last three to four weeks and was due to take place at Winchester Crown Court.
