Well the 'tank taxi' has now been featured on several national and other news outlets, including ITV News, and Reach plc branded local sites like Essex Live, the Nottingham Post and Wales Online. It's also reached the States, and is featured on the Fox News website :-o

But definitely a change of emphasis since the story first appeared in his local press, as is indicated by the headline on Essex Live:

Essex Live wrote:
'It's pretty good with potholes' Dad set to launch tank taxi service

https://www.essexlive.news/news/uk-worl ... ad-5622199

Merlin Batchelor's 15-tonne tank will be able to seat nine passengers for £600 per hour

Extract: Mr Batchelor, who works in legal services, says his sights are now set on securing a taxi permit.

So now he's just 'set to launch' the service, and 'his sights are now set on securing a permit'.

Also another change on the 'tank taxi' website:

A few days ago, Tank Taxi wrote:
NOTE: This website is a placeholder and we are not yet open for bookings as we are looking into local private hire licensing requirements!

Now Tank Taxi's website states wrote:
NOTE: Presently we are taking bookings for WEDDINGS and FUNERALS only, due to licensing requirements.

Some Councils would license vehicles as "special event" vehicles and had a different set of criteria. I think Litchfield was one of them. Our Council has licensed a motorcycle trike for private hire use.

from the looks of it on his website that's what he's now going for

For reasons unknown, this is now featuring on several overseas news outlets again.

Suspect it's because of this rather professional TV news report on CBS News, which other outlets have picked up.

"Tank taxi" offers fun and unique rides — though not the smoothest

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/tank-taxi- ... smoothest/

But the killer line is at the bottom, so presumably not much progress with regard to plating the thing:

CBS News wrote:
Batchelor is only licensed to carry passengers for weddings and funerals. The father of four hopes to get another permit to do more events like proms and birthday parties.

And funny that the wedding party featured in the video seems to be friends and neighbours, sort of thing. Very lucky the CBS news crew just happened to turn up at the right time 8-[

They'll happily haul you over for having to much tint on driver and passenger windows...how do you expect to get away with a 2" steel plate instead of simply tinted Glass?

Sort of makes a good last story on the news to bring a smile to folks faces.

But not to mine.

Had a look back at the Tank Taxi website after the other piece about the hearse.

And looks like they've given up trying to get it plated, because it's now just available for weddings and funerals, and doesn't mention licensing at all.

Of course, to that extent it's exempt, but the hearse in Newcastle isn't, because it's not actually being used for funerals.

Anyway, I wonder who would hire the Tank Taxi for a funeral? :-s
