So York Council is offering grants for low emission taxis, but beyond the headline there's little in the way of clarification about what it all means.

I mean, the first line of the article is misleading for a start.

Then there's a photo of a purpose-built EV HC. Which suggests the word 'taxi' in the piece means HC rather than also including PHVs.

But then it quotes the chair of the York PHA

So there's little to clarify precisely what the headline means, but plenty of scope for confusion. Of course, no doubt the official spiel is a bit clearer, but can't be bothered looking it up.

CITY of York Council are launching the city's first electric and wheelchair accessible taxi service.

The council are working to promote the uptake of low emission taxis to help improve the air quality in York.

This is part of a range of measures to reduce emissions, including buses, vans and private cars.

The council are offering grants of up to £3,000 to wheelchair accessible taxis to upgrade their cars to low emission vehicles to purchase petrol hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and some petrol cars, and towards running fully electric vehicles.

Wendy Loveday, chair of the York Private Hire Association said: "Its great to see an electric wheelchair accessible taxi in York.

"It ticks all the boxes: great for the environment, accessible, six seater, and looks really smart too - exciting times in the taxi trade!"

Those eligible for the grant scheme must be a City of York Council registered taxi and drive a vehicle under three years old.

So they ask the local PHA about an LEVC HC, and she thinks its fantastic!

Suspect it's a bit like asking turkeys for a quote after announcing that Christmas has been cancelled - she'll be happy for the HCs to bear most of the burden if PHVs get off relatively lightly.

Right result for the hackney trade, all they need now is another £57,000.

Council decision maker employees don't live in our world where it's hard to earn a crust, they get paid handsomely for doing about half a job, so they they literally have no experience of reality in the business sector....they think money grows on trees they really do.

I know what you mean. I put in a FOI request a couple of years ago, asking how many people worked at city hall. The answer came back, about 25% of them.
