No detail in the first piece here, and makes it sound like it maybe wasn't the worst of attacks. But see the original story below :-o

But plenty of court procedural and sentencing stuff for two quite short pieces, as opposed to detail about the attack, for example what caused the attack in the first place.

Warrant out for Oxford man who attacked taxi driver

An arrest warrant was issued by a judge after a thug failed to turn up at court.

Martel Webster-Baidoe, 21, has already pleaded guilty to causing a man actual bodily harm in an attack in Oxford on May 19. He attacked a taxi driver in what a judge last month labelled a ‘disgusting and cowardly attack’.

His case was due before Oxford Crown Court on Thursday morning to be sentenced for the offence.

But when Webster-Baidoe, of Little Bury, Oxford, failed to turn up to his sentencing hearing Judge Ian Pringle QC issued a warrant for his arrest.

The warrant is not backed for bail, meaning the police must keep him in the cells until he can be produced before the magistrates’ court.

Missed this at the time, which was published about a month ago.

Judge blasts thug for 'disgusting and cowardly' attack on Oxford cab driver

A thug dragged a driver out of his cab then stamped on his head in what a judge branded a ‘completely disgusting and cowardly attack’.

Just two days after Martel Webster-Baidoe’s brutal assault on the cab driver, the 20-year-old was given a community order for robbery.

Recorder John Bate-Williams adjourned sentencing Webster-Baidoe, who was convicted at the magistrates’ court in October of causing actual bodily harm, so the probation service could prepare a pre-sentence report.

But he warned the defendant: “It seems to me – and you must understand this – a prison sentence is inevitable.”

Earlier, prosecutor Alice Aubrey-Fletcher told the court she thought the assault on the cab driver in Oxford on May 19 was in the highest category in the sentencing guidelines, deserving a starting point of two-and-a-half years behind bars.

Webster-Baidoe is said to have punched the driver then dragged him from the car and stamped on his head between five and six times.

Christopher Pembridge, defending, asked the judge to put the case back for an up to date pre-sentence report.

His client had been doing well on the community order imposed – exceptionally, he said – for robbery just two days after the cab driver assault in May. He had done all the unpaid work ordered by the judge and was also getting help for mental health issues.

Recorder Bate-Williams bailed the defendant, of Little Bury, Oxford, to return to court on December 2 for sentence.

Google also throws up this about an assault on a police officer in 2019:

Oxford Mail wrote:
MARTEL TYRELL WEBSTER-BAIDOE, 18, of Hundred Acres Close, Oxford, was fined £80 after admitting being drunk and disorderly on Queen Street on August 26 and assaulting a police officer. He was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £32 and £85 in court costs.

The Judge will have all that and more before him when he sentences the fella.

Surprised the trial, if indeed there was one, took place in the Magistrates Court. :-k

Oxford thug who dragged cabbie out of taxi is remanded

https://www.oxfordmail.co.uk/news/19766 ... -remanded/

A thug who attacked a taxi driver has been remanded in custody – after he previously failed to turn up to his sentencing.

Martel Webster-Baidoe, 20, was due before Oxford Crown Court last week to be dealt with for causing actual bodily harm.

On May 19, he dragged a cab driver out of his vehicle then stamped on his head between five and six times in what a judge in November labelled a ‘disgusting and cowardly attack’.

A warrant for Webster-Baidoe’s arrest was issued when he failed to turn up at court last week.

He was arrested over the weekend and hauled back before the court on Monday, when Judge Maria Lamb remanded him in custody.

Webster-Baidoe, of Little Bury, Oxford, is due to be sentenced on December 10.
