Just heard that at the yearly GNER permit renewal, the fee will be the permit fee, think its around or nearly 400 quid at the moment, not sure the exact amount

The Radio Hack company want as collectors/agents of GNER, of the above said fee this year, PLUS £2.50 per week from every permit holder to cover administration costs

£2.50 per week this year, next it will be £2.50 per day, then you bet it will be so much a job picked up, wait and see

You'd think the permit fee would include the admin.

Why don't GNER deal with the admin themselves?

GNER sub it out, we used to deal direct, but suppose GNER who let a taxi company do the work don't have taxi drivers whinging and disturbing them, you've got factions arguing, and at loggerheads at taxi driver level while the train company is left alone

Who knows?

But wouldn't it be fairer to all if drivers just paid a fee each time they used the station rank? That could then be added to the punters fair.

The only losers would be the existing rank users who want to keep all the spoils to themselves. Shame that. :D

Just heard tonight the permit fee will be 450 quid for 2006 for the Rail Station rank, and 10 quid per week from each permit fee holder, not the £2.50 as was mentioned before, the 10 quid a week will be an administration charge to the host taxi company who are GNER agents for collecting the fee, that amounts to
50 grand a year to an ailing hack company on the verge of being bankrupt

7 hack shareholders of the said company are screwing the drivers of this city, most drivers have said they will not pay this amount, over and above the permit.
suggestions have been brought up that a barrier be placed at the railway station at 20p an entrance, so 20 jobs lets say per day at the station = 10 quid, this is a rip off, when most of the punters are off the street

A driver/owner is going to the Council to ask why 7 people [taxi drivers] are running the show in this City, to see what can be done if anything

You need to get the press involved.

'Highway Robbery in York' or 'Dick Turpin still lives' would make a good headline.

Wow! That makes the admin fee higher than the permit fee! (10 x 52 = 520)

Surely there must be some error there.

At a rough guess I would say that GNER don't know what's going on here?

You are maybe right TDO, was talking tonight with a driver who hadn't heard about it because he had been away, the cash is required for the lease of the data system contract something like 80 grand in all. with drivers slinging in their radios like there's no tomorrow the firm is stuck for cash

The bloke I spoke to states that his contract is for 3 years with GNER with permit only going up with inflation, let em try he said, it is led to believe Newcastle have gone down the road of charging drivers weekly for aministration.

The Hack company do charge already an administration charge.

I also saw a letter from GNER to all taxi drivers using the station rank, regarding the new feeder rank to which is on GNER car park land.

It states that all drivers using the station rank will not be allowed to rank the feeder between the hours of 1630hrs and 2000hrs, [peak times] this is due to the Corporate business people who pay big money cannot get out of the car park bays as some poxy taxis are blocking them in, they also go on about laying the law down that you will not park on the highway outside

I doubt if GNER would be very impressed if they knew that the firm were profiteering in this way.

I mean, if there's any profiteering to be done then I suspect GNER will consider that it's them who should be doing it
