Got off lightly, this one, although no word of any history. But would seem odd behaviour for a 41-year-old if he hasn't acted similarly before :?

And article seems a bit oddly structured - one of those that kind of reads like it's back to front :-s

He thought the cabbie was taking the long route and attacked him, a court was told

A passenger being driven in a pre-paid taxi assaulted the driver after accusing him of driving the long way on purpose, court heard. And when police investigated he assaulted two officers - threatening to put one in a garden next to a giant inflatable Santa.

Ekbal Saggo, 41, of Kelvin Way in West Bromwich, pleaded guilty to assault and two charges of assaulting an emergency worker in December last year. He appeared at Bristol Crown Court for sentence yesterday (Monday, March 21).

The recorder Mr Robin Sellers handed him a three-month jail term suspended for 15 months, with 150 hours' unpaid work. He told Saggo: "There is absolutely no excuse for the behaviour you exhibited that night. Go and don't come back." Saggo declined to comment as he left court.

Tabitha Macfarlane, prosecuting, said when cabbie Raju Singh picked up Saggo and his partner after a night out, Saggo started swearing at him in Punjabi. She told the court: "The defendant was exercised Mr Singh was defrauding him. It was a pre-paid fare, the driver was confused."

The court heard that when the taxi arrived at an address in Speedwell, Saggo punched Mr Singh twice through his open window. And when the cabbie went to drive off, Saggo kicked the cab and threw a stone at it.

Mr Singh made an impact statement saying he was scared of what Saggo would do to him and had not slept well due to pain in his face. He added he was scared Saggo had his details on his phone.

Miss Macfarlane said when police went to talk to Saggo he pushed, attempted a headbutt and spat towards PC Andrew Beach, telling him: "Do you want to join the Father Christmas you f****** c***?" Miss Macfarlane said he was referring to a blow-up Santa in the garden.

The court was told in the course of an 18-minute incident Saggo was Parva sprayed and Tasered before being arrested.

Gary Cook, defending, said: "He acknowledges the seriousness of these offences. I invite you to accept his apology as sincere and his remorse as genuine. He knows he placed himself in some jeopardy."

Had one or two of those over the years. Don't know if they've just genuinely forgot the fare has been agreed, or they're just trying to provoke an argument.

The fact that this thug was sentenced in the Crown Court means the Magistrates Court thought their sentencing powers were insufficient.

Presently the max a Magistrate Court can sentence is 6 months per offense (soon to be 12 months per offense). So the Mags Court thought a sentence of 12 months was the minimum this thug should receive.

Clearly the Crown Court judge felt otherwise. :-k

Worth remembering that the national language of India is English and the way they speak it, in respect of proper grammar, it would put many of us living in England to shame.
