Not really clear what this is all about. Most obvious thing is that she wasn't willing to pay the £2 surcharge to pay by card, but that point isn't explicitly made in the piece. But it doesn't stop the usual stuff about how the driver should be revoked etc :?

And if the woman does tend to 'furiously rant' and 'furiously lash out' as suggested by the headline and report here, then maybe that gives an indication as to why the driver wasn't keen, but to be fair her reported comments do seem fairly moderate.

Anyway, the driver shouldn't have asked for the £2 card surcharge. Assuming, of course, that's precisely what happened :?

Woman's furious rant at Redditch cabbie who refused her lift home when 'alone and scared'

Lone female was being abused by lewd men in Redditch's Unicorn Hill

A lone female has furiously lashed out at a Redditch taxi driver who refused to take her home while men shouted lewd comments in the street. The stranded woman offered to pay with her debit card but claims he refused - despite her "feeling unsafe" at night.

Turning to Facebook, the disheartened woman complained how a "bit of common decency would have gone a long way". She won over fellow residents, who labelled the taxi driver's actions as "absolutely disgusting" and "a disgrace".

It comes as more women are on high alert over their public safety following the Sarah Everard murder and Reclaim the streets movement.

The woman wrote on Spotted: Redditch yesterday(Friday, July 22): “I was waiting for a taxi on Unicorn Hill this evening and various men were shouting obscene things at me as a female alone.

“The taxi driver asked me if I knew the men, I told him no. He then told me if I wanted to get in his car it would be £10 plus an extra £2 if I didn’t have cash.

"I asked him to drive me home because I didn’t feel safe, and without the cash he would not do so. I appreciate the cost of fuel is high but I was happy and willing to pay by card.

"It doesn’t take a genius to see someone who does not feel comfortable. A bit of common decency would have gone a long way.

"I cannot believe any human being would have left anyone, male or female, in that situation when all it takes is a bit of common courtesy.”

Appalled residents urged the woman to report the taxi driver to the Worcestershire County Council and licensing authorities. Denise Smith said: "Absolutely disgusting he should have his license revoked."

Catherine Kane commented: "No woman should be left in that situation. Some men should be ashamed. If you or any other woman feel threatened again go in to a a pub or restaurant and ring for a taxi from there. What a disgrace some males are, they are not men."

Alan Burley added: "That's absolutely disgusting. I hope your OK. Bless u, That taxi driver is bang out of order, what is wrong with the world. What has happened to common decency.

"The driver took advantage of you for a couple of pounds that's awful he doesn't deserve his taxi licence. You was so brave in that situation, but I would report it to the taxi company and the police in case it happens again to some innocent poor lady out on her own.

"That's so terrible to hear, people please think of others the world has turned into a horrible place."

I suspect, as normal, there are buckets loads of info that hasn't come out.

Should the driver have asked for the extra £2? IMO it's not what a fit and proper person would do.

But if the woman was so terrified of the other people out on the street at that time, is £2 really a price not worth paying?

The answer is NO!! He should not have asked for any extra payment, it’s ILLEGAL.
