I wouldn't look too closely at the numbers here, unless you want to lose the will to live

But looks like they've got a multi-stage tariff, starting as normal, but with the running mile changing once the fare reaches a certain level. Then it does the same again once the fare gets to another level :-s

Which I'm guessing is the source of the error, but it's not wholly clear.

And I think the two tariff cards are the STA's and STF's different proposals rather than the official card.

Changes made to Slough taxi charges

CHANGES have been made to Slough taxi fares following an “error” in the last increase earlier this year.

The licensing committee approved requests from the trade for Hackney carriage drivers to charge an initial £3.40, or £5.40 between midnight and 5am, and 20p every 151 yards afterward.

This was the first increase in about 10 years as drivers were saying due to inflation and fuel prices ‘skyrocketing’, they have found it harder to stay financially stable.

The decision was made in March and was fully implemented in April after no objections were received. This made Slough the 90th most expensive for hackney fares in the country.

But now the Slough Taxi Federation and the Slough Taxi Association are back with two proposed tariff charts, citing there were “mistakes” in the previous proposal that “no one noticed” until it was applied.

Chairman of the Federation Mr P Badial and general secretary Mr Rs Ghotra explained: “One of the main errors on the previous tariff chart was where the last tariff starts at £10, we were assured that it should start at £11.20.

"But when we implemented the fare, we found that we were actually losing between £1.20 and £1.50 for every job.”

As an amendment to tariffs that are fully implemented, the trade had to go back and re-submit their new price listings that require the final sign-off from councillors sitting on the licensing committee, who convened on Monday, October 11.

Slough Taxi Federation proposed to charge people £3.40 and then 40p for every 300 yards. Between 10pm and midnight, the initial charge will be £3.60 and will increase to £5.40 between midnight and 5am.

After the fare reaches £5, 20p will be charged for every 60 seconds. They also wanted to charge people £100 if someone vomits or soils a hackney carriage – if it was holding five or more passengers and is on either Christmas Day, Boxing Day, or New Year’s Day.

On the other hand, the Slough Taxi Association wanted to charge people £3.60, between 5am and midnight, and 40p for every 300 yards until the fare reaches £6. After that, they will charge 20p for every 330 yards. The soiling charge would have also been set to £75.

Councillors ultimately approved the Slough Taxi Federation’s amendment.

Looking at the cards, it's hardly a surprise that there were mistakes and that 'no one noticed' :-s

I'm sorry but there is no excuse for those mistakes.

They either have buffoons as trade reps, buffoons as licensing officers, or buffoons as meter programmers.

Possibly all three. [-(
