This is the third similar incident in Fife in recent years. But unlike the two in Kirkcaldy near a nightclub and with taxis in the vicinity, Kelty is a small town of around 6,000 people and I wouldn't be surprised if there aren't even any taxi ranks.

Of course, could be wrong, but I'd guess the trade in the town is mainly saloon HCs doing mainly pre-booked work, with the odd street pick-up. Or maybe it's PHVs, which would maybe help explain her confusion.

Anyway, unfortunately there's nothing in here at all about the taxi angle, other that what's in the headline :?

But when reading below, worth bearing in mind that it won't be a busy street hoaching with taxis, cars and people :-|

Fife rapist attacked teenager in his car after she mistook it for taxi

A SEX predator who raped a teenager in Kelty after she went on a night out as pandemic lockdown restrictions eased has been jailed.

Mustafizur Rahman, 44, attacked the girl in the rear of his car after she thought she was getting into a taxi.

Rahman had denied raping the teenager during a trial at the High Court in Edinburgh but was found guilty of the offence during which he removed her lower clothing in the sex attack on the victim, who was a complete stranger to him.

He had claimed that she went into the back seat and took off her trousers and pants and invited him to perform oral sex on her and have intercourse.

But the victim said: "I remember him taking my trousers down to below my knees. I was telling him to stop."

The court heard that the distraught teenager went to a house in Kelty, seeking help after the sex attack in the town's Keltyhill Avenue on July 6 in 2020.

Police launched an investigation to gather CCTV to try to piece together events and began to trace owners of dark-coloured Vauxhall Vectra cars – a vehicle that was seen in footage.

A Vectra with a tow bar, which was a significant feature from CCTV film, was seen in a street in Dunfermline and Rahman was found to be the owner. He gave officers a statement and provided a DNA sample.

The court heard that the teenager was out drinking on the first day pubs had re-opened after lockdown following her turning 18 during the pandemic shutdown.

She was seen leaving a bar in Kelty with others before walking on her own in the town's Main Street. A detective who viewed the footage said she appeared to be "zig-zagging" across the footpath before entering the car.

After the sex attack on the vulnerable teenager, she made her way to a house in a hysterical state seeking help. A couple found her crying and very distressed.

Advocate depute Eric Robertson told jurors: "What the Crown says is that is supportive of her evidence that she did not consent to the sexual conduct that the accused had with her."

The prosecutor said that when all the facts and circumstances were looked at, there was a compelling case for accepting the woman's account of events.

Rahman, of Ballingry Crescent, Ballingry, was placed on the sex offenders' register following the jury's guilty verdict.

The trial judge, Lord Young, remanded him in custody for the preparation of a background report ahead of sentencing next month. He had been on bail during his trial.

Got off lightly if only placed on the sex offenders register.

He was jailed despite the article not saying how long for.

However, he will be released from jail at some time, and if he isn't deported (I don't know his immigration status), being put on the sex offenders register is quite important.

There's actually a paragraph about the sentencing missing from the report above, which I've now added 8-[

The article appeared on several different websites at the same time, and the headline in the article above is actually from the Courier's site, but the article itself is from the Central Fife Times, because the Courier's is paywalled, but the Central Fife Times has a very, er, Fife-oriented headline for those who know the local geography.

Anyway, both pieces, and a couple of others in different outlets, all obviously use the same source material (an agency reporter, presumably), and have just rearranged the stuff a bit and composed their own headlines.

Anyway, the funny thing is that all the articles say he's been jailed, but that he's been remanded pending a sentencing report.

So if he's been remanded in custody, then strictly speaking he's not been jailed for the offence, so it's a bit misleading, and presumably the fault of the agency reporter. But the error seems to have been repeated in all the outlets carrying the article.

Mostly rehash, apart from the sentencing.

Kelty: Teenager got into his car believing it was a taxi

https://www.centralfifetimes.com/news/2 ... ving-taxi/

A SEX predator who raped a teenager in Kelty after she got into his car believing it was a taxi has been jailed for six years.

Mustafizur Rahman, 44, formerly of Ballingry Crescent in Ballingry, attacked the girl after she had been out drinking on a night out as pandemic lockdown restrictions eased.

Lord Young told him at the High Court in Edinburgh today: "You took advantage of a lone, vulnerable woman who was trying to get home.

"This was a predatory and opportunistic sexual assault."

The judge said he had regard to a statement provided by the victim which told of the psychological impact of the offending on her and the effect it has had on all aspects of her life.

Lord Young said: "I note that you continue to deny your guilt. There is no indication of remorse, empathy or insight into your offending."

Rahman had denied raping the woman during an earlier trial, but was found guilty of the offence during which he removed her lower clothing. The victim was a complete stranger to him.

He claimed that she went into the back seat and took off her trousers and pants and invited him to perform oral sex on her and have intercourse.

But the court heard that the distraught teenager went to a house in Kelty seeking help after the assault in the village's Keltyhill Avenue on July 6, 2020.

She told police that she was sure she had got into a taxi and remembered being in the back seat. She said she recalled her attacker taking her trousers down and she told him to 'stop'.

Police launched an investigation to gather CCTV footage to piece together events and began to trace owners of dark coloured Vauxhall Vectra cars after such a vehicle was caught on camera.

A Vectra with a tow bar, which was a significant feature seen in footage, was traced to a street in Dunfermline and Rahman was found to be the owner.

He gave officers a statement and provided a DNA sample.

The court heard that the teenager was out drinking on the first day pubs had reopened after lockdown following her turning 18 during the shutdown.

She was seen leaving a bar with others before she was later caught on camera on her own in Kelty's Main Street.

A detective who viewed the footage said she appeared to be zigzagging across the pavement before entering a car.

Rahman was placed on the sex offenders' register indefinitely following his sentencing.
