Nothing much to see in terms of the tariff rise, but certainly not the cheapest fares around, although T2 etc is a reasonably modest fixed surcharge, which effectively adds a reasonable sum to the flagfall, but obviously on longer trips it's less significant.

But I wonder how they came up with an increase in the 'fouling' fee to £200? :-o

Can't recall ever reading of one even approaching this figure - could it be the highest in the UK?

Moray taxi fares to rise by 10%

https://www.northern-scot.co.uk/news/mo ... 10-293723/

Taxi fares will increase by 10% in Moray next month.

At the moment the most that can be charged for a standard five-mile taxi journey is £15.60.

That amount increases to £16.60 for a late-night booking, £17.30 on bank holidays and £29.85 over the festive period.

The new rates will come into force on December 10 and will see the maximum charges rise to £17.16, £18.26, £19.03 and £32.84 respectively.

In addition, the charge for being sick in a cab will increase from £120 to £200.

Moray Council's licensing committee unanimously agreed the new rates today following a consultation with drivers and operators.

Donald Gatt (Keith and Cullen, Conservative) said: "I want to express disappointment there were only six responses."

Juli Harris (Speyside/Glenlivet, SNP) agreed with these sentiments and seconded cllr Gatt's motion to approve the increase.

The council is obliged to review taxi charging every 18 months with the last increase coming in four years ago.

So a daytime five mile run will be over £17, but it's obvious from the other figures (in mauve) that the ordinary T2 etc premiums aren't significant on longer trips.

But the figures in the article seem to be a tad misleading.

T2 is currently a £1.00 surcharge (in green above), and that ordinarily seems to apply to evening bookings between 7pm and midnight, so it's misleading to say that's for a 'late night booking'.

T3 is currently the £1.70 surcharge (in red above) and that's ordinarily for runs between midnight and 7am, rather than 'on bank holidays'.

As for the sickie fee, the tariff card currently states:

Moray Council tariff card wrote:
A charge of £120.00 to every passenger fouling a taxi.

Which sounds a bit over the top if it's a minor fouling incident. And it'll now be £200

Of course, in reality drivers may be lucky to get anything at all, but on the other hand the tariff card suggests that a driver can charge £200 for 'fouling', which is incredibly vague :?

They literally thought of a number and doubled it.

so if the fouling fee was £100 how many would pay it maybe 50%

double it to £200 and now how many would pay it and how many would accuse the driver of ripping them off ?

you can get it professionally cleaned at a hand car wash for under £100 (well round here anyway)

Apart from the very worst cases, £200 for fouling does seem a tad over the top. I mean, fouling isn't defined, and the charge doesn't say 'up to', so what does fouling mean, and is £200 always applicable? £200 for a few greasy fingerprints and bits of pizza on the door handle, say, or a bit of vomit that could be cleaned up at the garage in five minutes?

Some minor sickies have actually saved my night, if it's been relatively easy to clean up (all on the plastic mats, say) and the money I got was significant in terms of the night's total take :-o

In fact, apart from the worst examples, I'd be minted if I got £200 every night every time the car was 'fouled' \:D/

Maybe because they are never going to get it. Not in a million years.
