As usual, no surprises about the time of night here :?

And the usual misuse of the t-word, but maybe that helps rather than hinders witness appeals, because 'private hire car' maybe doesn't mean that much to the public.

On the other hand, it's a black vehicle, and they've used a Google grab of a black cab for the website, which obviously helps a lot as regards maybe jogging witnesses' memories

A young Edinburgh man was rushed to hospital after being struck by a taxi in the city centre on Thursday morning.

The 21-year-old collided with a black Peugeot while crossing the road on Hanover Street around 2:25am and officers are keen to trace four passengers in the taxi who left the scene before officers arrived.

Police say the man was rushed to the Royal Infirmary where he remains for treatment, although his condition is stable.

Sergeant Ross Drummond, of the road policing unit in Edinburgh, said: "There were four male passengers in the taxi at the time of the crash.

"Unfortunately, they'd left prior to the arrival of police so we are keen to speak to them and the occupants of a white van travelling behind the taxi as they could have information that may assist our inquiry.

"Any information can be passed to officers via 101. Please quote reference number 0248 of Thursday November 17."

It's not the worst of its kind, but don't like the 'young man' in the headline there, which reads like it's vaguely sympathetic towards the victim because of his age, just like if I used the term 'drunk' in relation to something like this.

On the other hand, the text says the "21-year-old collided" with the cab, which effectively blames the victim, and I doubt that's the phrase used by police in their news release.

But, naturally, the commenters on the website are either automatically blaming the driver, or are more bothered about the photo of the HC :?
