Just a little snippet I heard floating around, GNER want the taxis that service the railway station [on permit] will be requiring all cabs that use the rank to be in one colour, white, to make it look business like, the cabs will be under 5 years old and will be subject to random emission tests at their whim, by the year 2008

Now they have got everyone wearing decent clothes and a tie in the station rank, and the drivers are fallen in line, this is the next step forward

who knows, each cab may have the GNER logo smartly displayed on the cab doors at somertime in the future, The Council will be proud, we can't do nowt with em, but look what the railway company has done, well done those railway men

It's just a thought, but it is very hard to get hold of a vehicle in white, but don't worry, GNER who are part of the large group, is it P&O Container group, who own some car franchise business, there's the answer

I think I read somewhere that VW are thinking of binning white. It seems the taxi/PH trade and the van folk are the only people using it.

In fact I can't remember the last time I saw a new white vehicle that wasn't a van or a taxi/PH. :-k

Sounds like someone has visited Renfrewshire :-o

A few years ago the joke of a Council here forced all the taxis to be white & under 5 years for saloon cars & under 8 for W.A.V.

Orginially only the taxis with Glasgow Airport permits were white, so therefore all the taxis including Paisley had to gio white to keep the B.A.A. happy

Is this the same taxi company that suspended the driver on a whim?

If it is then I hope that the drivers all stick together and get stop this kind of change happening. What a stupid measure for the quality of a car. Surely a maximum mileage or independent check for quality would be much better.

I've seen some really new cars with less than 100,000 miles on the clock look absolutely wrecked, and conversely some older cars 7 years or more which have been really looked after and like new inside.

How would that work anyway? How could all the drivers afford to buy a new motor every 5 years? I presume that the current fleet are of mixed age. What percentage are over 5 years, and what the average age of a car is before it's changed.

The drivers should simply refuse to change their cars. Let the company see how long it can operate with a handful of cars

Either you do as GNER says, or get off the property.

That's quite easy, since the Council who are 400 grand over budget and not yet completed the road layout at the Rail Station, the taxis have to come out now with the flow of traffic from the railway car parks adding an average 30p to the meter before they hit the highway, having to do a loop de loop, thats progress, another idea drummed up by the wisdom of the Council, which has cocked up, these people don't listen to the man on the ground, they was told it wouldn't work properly

So if the Council have done all this work, who does really own the taxi rank, the Railway or the Council, are we being conned

police cars: up here are now silver and covered in flourescent stripes

Ambulances: are covered entirely in flourescent gubbings showing no vehicle colour

having spoken to various manufacturers this last week in a follow up to something in a trade publication.
i was told they are all looking at stopping producing white even as a colour choice. and i mean all manufacturers with the exception of one who is watching the others to see what happens in response by the paying public.

how many authorities stipulate white as a colour when in effect white is a shade and not a colour.

I hear some of the taxi management have been complaining to GNER, to complain about running up 30p or even 50p on their meters before they hit the main road.

Well the answer from the Management of the said railway company gave this reply, that the best course of action would be, wait for it

Don't put your meters on till you hit the highway, that solves that problem
