Almost as long as it takes you to open your doors and ask your passengers for their fares.

Still, an apt description none the less.

PS: Nice to see your taking a more rational stance over on the worlds quietest forum.

Ding, Ding, Mr Ding-a-ling. :D

Amazing how narrow minded some ppl are............Yes it stops the touting...........the touting of UNLICENDED CARS..............ALL the London Cab trade complain of enforcement, well do not think that would be a tad easier IF the Police ect had a very clear understanding of what a PH/minicab looked like.

Dont confuse "The Knowledge" with "knowledge" :)

Exactly it has the backing of both the PCO and The Suzy Lamplugh Trust.

What you meant to say was, it has the backing of certain individuals in the PCO, and the Diane Lamplugh.

It did last time as well.

Ken Livingstone still veto'd it.

Clearly signs will stop the licensed minicab driver from commiting a sexual assault? :?

Or unlicensed minicab drivers from making them up? :? and commiting a sexual assault.

Sorry Jiffy your wrong.

The majority of touting in London is now carried out by Licensed Minicabs, not blokes in their own cars as the Minicab lobby would like us all to believe.

Sure there are still unlicensed cars out there, but these are paled into insignificance when you look at all the licensed cars openly trying to steal fares from the street.

As i've said before, on more occasions than I care to remember, I work in London, I see these people in action every night I'm out, trying their luck, and again I'll say, if you doubt me come into the capital of a weekend and see these people in their hundreds driving around central London, blatantly flashing their lights and horns at anything that moves.

Its easy to sit at home out in the nice counties of England and pontificate as to what you perceive Londons problems and solutions are, I see it nightly, and I know the quality of driver the Minicab industry employs.

The Police TOCU that polices then are more than aware of what a licensed minicab looks like without signs on it.

They have 32 officers, they don't even touch the tip of the problem, and if they do catch one, the PCO issues them with a warning.

You may think my view point comes from my Ivory tower outside the smoke, but my father who has been a greenbadgeholder for some 43 years (indeed a further 13 of my family also are) dont all share your views.

There is a valid arguement that the Minicab's do the work that none of you (black cabs) wish to do, ie clubs pubs ect. I have no clue if your a radio cab or not, but I bet all the tea in China you have NEVER entered a pub to collect a customer.

As my father so eloquently puts it. "Imagine all the crap that would want to get into my cab if minicabs werent clearing the crap off the streets"

I have only read the last two posts on this thread but I know the attitude of the Police in our local major connurbations.

They think 'thank f*** for the PH boys wiping up the dregs of the street. If it wasn't for them our town would be a war zone'.

In our local city which restricts licenses, it was calculated that less than 30% of the licensed hacks worked between 22.00 on Saturday night and 08.00 on Monday morning.

How many licensed PH boys came out? about 65%.

I had the opportunity to ask the leader of that council why his council don't derestrict. He answered 'but lots and lots of taxis are on the road every Saturday night'. He then listed the towns three biggest PH firms, saying that 'these taxi companies served the city very well'.

A bit of common sense on the foum at last - well done. You have summed up the problem perfectly - its called supply and demand. The black cabs dont want to know when it comes to the pubs and clubs and the PH are left to clean up. Touts see it as an opporunity to make money without paying operators a fee.
