Yes, and when the article refers to the 'startling' data, I think they're surpised that three per cent is so low.

There were a few here when I started back in the late 90s, and in fact a few years later and there was actually quite a healthy cohort of women in the trade, and quite young women at that
They gradually disappeared, though, and think there's only one or two left, at least in terms of regular drivers, rather than the occasional ones, or the ones who disappear from the job fairly quickly.
Not sure there's ever been any difference between night and day either in terms of numbers, although our punters are certainly a lot tamer than the average in Dundee, where I would be surprised to find any women at all working nights.
I do recally one case here, though, when one of the female drivers here was assaulted by a punter in a fare ruck, which was taken to court, and ironically the perp was another female. The driver must have only been about 25, though
Of course, CCTV and the like might make the job a bit more attractive to women drivers these days, but if even the men increasingly won't work nights...
