I want to thank all those in favour of LPH signage, but I think it's already in the bag.

The PCO love a good U-turn.

The majority of touting in London is now carried out by Licensed Minicabs, not blokes in their own cars as the Minicab lobby would like us all to believe.

It's not the licensed vehicles that do wrong, it's the drivers that illegally pick up that's the problem.

You drive a TX, now that looks as much like a cab in Hastings as it does in London. But would you pick up in Hastings off a Hastings rank, of course not? So why should the vast majority of PH drivers suddenly pick up illegally if they have proper signage?

If they are going to pick up illegally, then they do it with or without signage.

But proper signage will help the right customer get into the right licensed vehicle that they've booked. And not get into an un-licensed vehicle by mistake.

One thing in all this is certain - if it is outside a club late at night it will not be a black cab that picks them up.

This is all just supply and demand - if there are no black cabs and no legit private hire then the illegal touts will fill the gap.

There is an initiative in Clapham to clear revellers from the clubs which involves the PCO and local private hire firms

They're on crap money for long, long days.

The temptation when people approach them, instead of the existing scenario of them asking people, will tempt them.

They have 30'000 + drivers, it does'nt take a 'vast majority', just the few thousand that will try it.

The law breakers amoungst them have to approach people at the moment, (taxee boss? etc etc) that makes stand out, and also makes the touts wary in case they tout the Police by mistake. With signs you just park up near a busy spot, and wait on the people asking you.

The Police would never approach a driver as that could amount to entrapment.

Rent free, tax free, nice work if you can get it.

this was a shocking incident no doubt, it could have happened anywhere i guess but happended on our doorstep. Still, when the punters come out from the pubs and clubs at night / weekends, they surely should be able to recognise a private hire vehicle, big ariels, taxi plates front and back, and most importantly the name, however one firm, the one im with does not disclose destination, yet the other big firm does, so that would be a consideration to take up.
But again some of the folk we collect at weekends from the city centre need a stretcher to get them in and out of the taxi there that [edited by admin] lol.
ph firms can only do so much, in the end the punters need to be sure there getting into a licensed ph vehicle.

I'm not so sure about that. :-k

I see about 10 London PH in my manor for every London black cab. And those cars are generally a lot more modern than yours.

Proves the point.

We can all afford to live nearer to London.

The minicabs are forced to live 100 miles away in Eastbourne, beside the blue rinse mob.

Just wait until they start driving up Eastbourne high street asking your locals if they want a 'Taxee boss?'

Worst still? What if your area does de-restrict? They might fancy settling there and take a plate?

But anyway, back to the thread. Why do I see so many PHV's, here and everywhere, with plates stuck inside the back window, in some cases, hardly noticable? Surely they should be fixed to the exterior to show they are a PH? Counted over twenty different ones in my own fair City this week. :? So how about starting with your primary sineage, your plate?

More than likely they are inside the motor cos their councils allow it. I would not.

I suppose some of the exec motors like to keep nice and tidy, but if they are licensed, then it should clear to all.
