Having gone back to bus driving after a spell at PH in the rural area of Romney Marsh I now find myself driving an 8 seat Ford Transit on rail replacement at night on a PSV O licence. It's a 4 hour job that takes about 5 minutes!

Home to depot, get minibus out, 18 miles to pick up, 1.6 miles to the next station, 20 miles back to depot, go home. OK it's a 40 mile drive from home to depot and the same coming back, but what I get is more than an "airport job" would have paid from Romney Marsh. The actual bus driving bit takes about an hour. I'm glad I kept my PSV licence.

You could have a 4 seater car instead....it could also be used on a spare O licence slot

I used to run my Range rover on my PSV O licence. the local boys didn't like it when I could legally ply for hire in the High Street without PH or HC plates. The L didn't like it, but with a confirmation letter from the Traffic commissioner, it was all deemed legal. I'm no longer an O licence holder, I sold them with my bus business the week before covid hit! got out just in time...

The week for lockdown and the grants and help a local guy who had been a LTD company 8 years folded that and went back to S/E status ... oh dear, big mistake


and all our suspended school runs were paid in full so i had a good year...

My bus company was running vintage buses so no help for us in the covid lockdown. I stopped running service buses years ago, too much hassle with getting fuel duty rebate, county councils and contracts, etc. etc. etc. Not to worry, still doing every weekend. and if I worked every week at the rate I get now, I'd be on about the same annual rate as a train driver. But why work every day when I don't have to? After all I turned 70 last year. , had my psv licence 50 years this year.

The company I do the local night rail for runs under 8 seaters on their licence as well as up to 35 bigger buses and coaches.
