Police say the incident, which allegedly took place at around 11.30pm on July 14, saw a taxi driver pick up a fare in Derby.
Officers say three men got into the back of the taxi and allegedly asked the driver to take them to Meadow Lane, in Alvaston.
It is claimed that after parking up in Meadow Lane, one of the men allegedly produced a knife and allegedly threatened him, taking the keys from the ignition.
It is alleged the men then took the taxi and left the driver in Meadow Lane. The vehicle was later found abandoned in Swinburne Street, Rose Hill.
Two men were arrested nearby on suspicion of robbery, and they have since been questioned and released under investigation.
Now Derbyshire police says officers in the case want to speak to the man pictured in case he has information which can help with their enquiries.
