A bogus taxi driver who picked up women before driving them to secluded spots to rape them is facing a significant jail sentence.

Detectives say Nazim Asmal, 34, lured his victims into his vehicle while they were on their way home from nights out.

While they believed he was a taxi driver, he instead drove them to remote locations to carry out serious sexual assaults.

Asmal, now of no fixed address but formerly of Balaclava Street, Blackburn, admitted to four counts of rape at Preston Crown Court.

He has been remanded in custody to be sentenced on February 13, 2024.

Police say the first incident happened on October 3, 2021, when a victim got into Asmal’s car in Preston city centre.

He drove for around 10 minutes, before raping his victim in the car and then dropping her off back in the city centre, where she flagged a member of the public down for help.

On March 4 this year a second victim had been on a night out in Darwen when she ended up in Asmal’s car.

He drove her to a secluded area on the town's outskirts, where he then raped her.

Asmal got the victim's phone number and later called her, asking her if she "wanted to do something" before she hung up.

Police said Asmal raped his third victim on the same night he made that call.

The victim got into Asmal’s car in Darwen town centre, and while driving her towards Bolton, in the opposite direction of her home, Asmal said: “You don’t want to pay for this taxi, do you?”

He stopped in a secluded area and raped her. He then dropped her off at her home.

Investigators identified Asmal after his black Toyota Yaris was picked up on CCTV cameras.

Detective Inspector Darren Irving, from Lancashire Constabulary's East RASSO Team, said: “Asmal deliberately targeted his victims because of their vulnerable state and subjected them to serious sexual assaults.

"My thoughts are very much with the victims who continue to be supported by specially trained officers.

“If you or somebody you know has been the victim of a sexual offence I would encourage you to contact the police knowing you will be listened to, believed and that we will do everything we can to put the perpetrator before the courts.”

Victims can report it online via https://doitonline.lancashire.police.uk/ or call 101.

Another one that needs deporting but no doubt once he leaves prison his case will be strongly fought by human rights lawyers

On the other hand, Edders, the way things are going, maybe part of his rehabilitation while in jail can be working as a cabbie to help solve the shortage of drivers :-s

sorry got permanently banned from twitter for making a comment (in jest) about a railway engine that started a lineside fire which used the word "arson" so can't read that

But my view has always been that driver standards must be upheld to reassure if not protect the travelling public

Sadly not a view universally shared by the big operators.

I read lots of stuff on Twitter (rather than posting), and I regularly see people getting banned and just setting up another account...

And I thought Elon Musk had effectively unbanned lots of accounts like yours?

Anyway, easy enough to read a tweet even if you're banned (but without opening another account) using a private window.

Just right click on the link (or maybe a two-fingered tap on your touchpad) and the menu that appears should give you some kind of option to 'Open link in new private window'.

Another option is just to have another browser installed, and if your login details aren't stored by that browser then you won't be 'banned', and it will effectively just work like a private window.

(For anyone who doesn't use private windows on their browser, it's basically like starting from scratch, and it ignores your browsing history and any stored login details etc. So, for example, if a news site gives you four 'free' articles a month, or whatever, and you've reached that limit, then it's easy enough to get round this by using a private window, so the website you're visiting will regard you as a brand new user.)

Anyway, to save you watching the short video, it's about a prisoner day release scheme to help solve the shortage of HGV drivers.

And the crim in the video is in prison for importing drugs using a truck  ](*,)

Rapist who posed as taxi driver to lure women into his car jailed

https://news.sky.com/story/rapist-who-p ... d-13188972

A man who pretended to be a taxi driver in order to rape women returning from a night out has been jailed.

Nazim Asmal, 35, has been sentenced to 17 years in prison with a further five years on extended licence after pleading guilty to four counts of rape at Preston Crown Court, Lancashire, in November.

Asmal, who currently has no fixed abode but formerly of Balaclava Street in Blackburn, carried out his first attack in October 2021, when his victim got into his car in Preston city centre.

He drove for about 10 minutes, raped her in the car and dropped her off back in the city centre. She then flagged a member of the public down for help.

The second incident took place in March 2023, when his victim had been on a night out in Darwen and ended up in Asmal's car. He drove her to a secluded area and raped her.

As he managed to get his victim's number, he tried calling her at the start of April that year, but she did not reply as the call came up with "no caller ID".

Asmal called her again on 8 April 2023, at which point the victim answered.

She recognised the voice of her attacker but did not know his identity. Asmal then went on to ask her "if she wanted to do something?", and the victim hung up.

On the same evening of that call, Asmal raped his third victim after she got into his car in Darwen town centre.

Driving her towards Bolton, in the opposite direction of her home, Asmal said: "You don't want to pay for this taxi, do you?"

He raped his victim and then dropped her off at her home address.

Asmal was tracked down after his black Toyota Yaris was picked up on CCTV cameras, Lancashire Police said.

'My life changed forever'

The first victim said on the night of the attack, "my life was changed forever", adding: "I feel like a part of myself died that night and that makes me overwhelmingly sad and angry."

In a statement to the court, she said she continues to struggle with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and she has been avoiding social interactions and "withdrawing away from the people I love".

She went on to say she "really struggles" with being out late, at times also being scared of walking her dogs.

The second victim said she had been seeing someone when she was attacked, but the rape led to her not being able to continue the relationship.

"I really don't like the thought of getting close to anyone," she said, adding: "I lie awake at night replaying it all in my head."

She also said she "was stressed and anxious being at home because he knew where I lived. I did not feel safe there."

The third victim said she has been "low" since the attack. "I have lost weight and feel constantly anxious. I feel lost and out of control, I am scared to be on my own and have a constant feeling of hypervigilance."
