Mohammed Yamin, from Newport, was stopped by officers on the A472 near Pontllanfraith and was found in possession of 2kg of cocaine and a significant amount of cash.
He appeared at Cardiff Crown Court on Tuesday 20 February where he was sentenced to six years and six months for possession with intent to supply class A drugs (cocaine).
Detective Constable Hackney, the officer in the case, said:
“Mohammed Yamin played a significant role in the distribution of wholesale amounts of cocaine.
“During the stop and search in May last year, officers found 2kg of high purity cocaine that was being taken to the Blackwood area.
“Further searches by officers, in the taxi and Yamin’s home address, uncovered a total of £17,000 in cash.
“We welcome the sentence imposed on Yamin and hope it acts not only as a warning against others who are tempted to engage in such criminality but reassures the community that we are committed to targeting those involved in drug supply.
"Illegal drugs have no place in our society and we encourage people to continue to report any such concerns so we can take action.”
Yamin was found guilty by a jury at Cardiff Crown Court in November 2023 and has been jailed for six years and six months.
He will be required to appear at a Proceeds of Crime Act hearing at a later date.
