This is looking like the worst opening ceremony ever.

Admittedly the 2012 opening ceremony was a masterclass (Mrs Sussex being one of the dancers), but the 2024 effort is rather poor to put it lightly.

I never watch the opening or closing ceremonies. I will probably watch some of the Athletics, the swimming and cycling and maybe the odd tennis match but to be honest the olympics is not the greatest spectacle on earth it is a sporting event albeit one that most sportsmen and women dream of competing in and have to make huge sacrifices to do so. my niece took a whole year of Uni to train and prepare for the Tokyo olympics then it got moved so she ended up packing it in to concentrate on finishing her degree and moving on into the workplace

I just love the fact that our medals were spread over so many different sports.

Third in the medal (total) table is good enough for me. =D>

30 Years ago when I was a scout leader we used to go kyaking down our local river and at Holmepierre point. We used to line our kayaks up on top of a bridge over the river and launch ourselves in and race to the first corner. Now they call it kayak cross and we win olympic medals in it. Only 30 years to late for me then.
Also 28 years ago my eldest son came 4th in the country at junior rock climbing when he was 13 years old. he was very good at it. just think if he had been born later he could also have been an olypian.

They are always adding and removing sports from the olympics

for instance at one time cricket, polo, lacrosse and croquet were included

now you have baseball, softball and golf

to be fair anything that can be played competitively can be included so maybe polo and lacrosse should be reinstated in the future and perhaps something like T20 for the cricket but I doubt that will happen as cricket playing nations aren't dominant on the IOC

In one of the Olympics in the early 1900s, they had Art as a sport.
