Not much to see here, but in the grand scheme of things maybe quite a good result for the trade [-(

Which is maybe why they've felt the need to throw in the stuff about the no-smoking stickers

And would be interesting to see a breakdown in terms of licensing authorities, because, you know...

And almost didn't read the statement at the end from the police inspector, but spot the slight clanger...

Officers in Chester help to ensure taxis are operating lawfully

https://www.cheshire.police.uk/news/che ... -lawfully/

Chester Local Policing Unit has taken part in a further operation to ensure taxis are operating lawfully in the city.

Operation Recordings, which is carried out by both Chester Beat Management Team and the Special Constabulary, was established in a bid to ensure taxis are safe, correctly licenced, and compliant with all regulations.

On Friday 11 July, officers worked with the taxi licensing team from Cheshire West and Chester Council, as well as teams from Flintshire and Wolverhampton, to make sure taxis were operating lawfully.

This resulted in:

    • 53 taxis being stopped

    • Three taxis taken off the road due to defects

    • Seven rectification notices issued

    • One TOR (Traffic Offence Report) issued for defective tyres

    • Advice given to 12 drivers in relation to not having any ‘no smoking’ stickers displayed

Inspector James Wilson said:

“Countless people use taxis to get around Chester – from residents and those who work in the area, to visitors taking a trip to the city to enjoy all it has to offer.

“This is why we work alongside our partner agencies to make sure the vehicles and drivers transporting these individuals are correctly licenced and compliant.

“These operations send a clear message that taxi drivers must comply with regulations for a reason - to ensure the safety of all those using taxis in the Chester area.

“All taxis must be road worthy with no defects, the driver needs to have an ID badge, there must be a fire extinguisher and first aid kit, and vehicles must display no smoking signs.

“Over the course of the operation, positive feedback was received from a number of taxi drivers and members of the public and we’d like to thank everyone for their cooperation.”

Except, of course, if it's a Wolves car :-o

Or perhaps, despite the presence of Wolves LOs, none of the 53 cars stopped were Wolves-plated

And pretty straight bat rehash in the Chester Standard. But if you think my thread title is a bit odd (ran out of space  ), then what about this, which, even ignoring the spelling mistake, looks a bit clunky:

The requirement for CWAC licensed vehicles to carry fire extinguishers was dropped two years ago!

Must have been the Flintshire cars the inspector was on about then, X-ray

Although I wouldn't be surprised if...

Edit - had a quick look on the Flintshire website, and there is a fire extinguisher and first aid requirement in the private hire vehicle specification.

However would they mangage without the 'two triangular bandages', 'large sterile plain dressing', and 'individually wrapped moist cleaning wipes', etc etc :-o

Flintshire Council PHV specification wrote:
The vehicle must be fitted with a fire extinguisher (dry powder type, minimum
weight 2.00 kg) in such a position to be readily available for use.

The vehicle must be equipped with an appropriate first-aid box, minimum
contents to be as follows: card giving the general first-aid guidance, six
individually wrapped sterile adhesive dressings, one large sterile plain dressing,
two triangular bandages, two safety pins and individually wrapped moist
cleansing wipes and one pair of disposal gloves.

Dry powder extinguishers have been forbidden on PSVs for a number of years. the powder could easily be inhaled by passengers and it's poisonous. Interesting there's no BS number for such items, but there is in the PSV regulations. BS5423 if I remember correctly. What extinguisher should be carried on a hybrid or electric car? "A fire extinguisher" is not the correct answer.

Location: Stamford Britains prettiest town till SKDC ruined it
As for the no smoking signs is it that they weren't fitted or haven't been replaced after passengers peel them off and take them ?
