Not much on the taxi driver angle here other than that he is one, and that he came across his wife while working

But no word on how all of this might or has impacted his badge...

A taxi driver trampled over a court order banning him from contacting his wife by shouting at her in a restaurant.

Ercan Yorulmaz approached her in Hythe’s Sunshine Meze, BBQ, Wine and Cocktail Bar before unleashing a tirade in front of shocked diners.

The 46-year-old of Folkestone was prohibited from speaking to the woman after she ended their relationship and successfully sought a non-molestation order.

But on seeing her dining with a friend while out on a job, he ran roughshod over the rules to demand answers on why she was out - even ordering her to leave.

Furthermore, the Turkish national declared he did not want to see her in the Folkestone area again and that she should leave Hythe.

Yorulmaz, of Tontine Street, was later charged with breaching the non-molestation order for his actions in the high street restaurant in April last year.

He initially denied the offence but pleaded guilty on the day of trial in May.

A pre-sentencing report was ordered to be completed on him before he learned his fate, and he returned to Folkestone Magistrates’ Court on July 4 to be sentenced.

The court heard the order had been made by the family court in Canterbury in September 2023.

Dylan Bradshaw, prosecuting, said: “The complainant was married to him, but the relationship broke down and she made a decision not to be married to him any more.

“Eventually, she got a non-molestation order as he had previously tried to contact her. It is only fair to confirm that she makes it clear in her statement that he was never physically violent towards her.

“The breach occurred on April 20, 2024, sometime between 9.30pm and 10pm at the Sunshine Meze restaurant in Hythe.

“His wife was inside with a friend, and he went in and said to her in a loud voice: ‘What are you doing here?

“‘You’re 40 years old and have two children - I don’t want to see you in Folkestone any more, leave Hythe and just go away.’

“The friend pulled her to one side and ushered her towards the toilets to keep away from him.

“He has no previous convictions, but I am applying for a restraining order, which will have two conditions - not to contact her or go near her address.”

Simon Pettican, defending, explained his client has two children, aged 19 and 14, who lived with their mother.

Prior to his client entering a guilty plea to the breach in May, the lawyer said, he was of previous good character.

He added: “He’s a taxi driver and got a fare that day and popped into the restaurant to ask for directions as he knew people who worked there.

“She was in there at the time, and he spoke to her, which was a breach of the order.”

Magistrates also heard that, despite applying and being granted the court order, Yorulmaz had told his solicitor that his wife had been in contact with him on a couple of occasions since it was issued.

Mr Pettican added: “She was requesting money and he paid as they are his children and he’s got that responsibility as a father.

“As a taxi driver, he earns between £300 and £400 a week.”

Magistrates also heard the pre-sentencing report carried out by probation on Yorulmaz, recommended he undertook rehabilitation activity requirement days and unpaid work.

Mr Pettican added: “He’s aware of the report and is willing to abide by it.”

Magistrates were also told the non-molestation order is no longer running as it expired last September.

The bench decided to go along with the recommendation in the pre-sentencing report and placed Yorulmaz on a 12-month community order.

It will see him attend 20 rehabilitation sessions and complete 80 hours of unpaid work.

Yorulmaz was also banned from contacting his wife via a 12-month restraining order.

He was also ordered to pay £250 court costs and a £114 victim surcharge, paying what he owes at a rate of £30 a month.

Clearly wasn't expecting the witnesses to turn up. [-(
