The West Lothian question is indeed one that should not arise as the Scot's MP's should not vote on those matters

Please don't hate us though, we bailed you guys out during the 70's

Aw shucks, I don't hate anyone, especially the Scots. Actually I'm half Jockenese myself... nobody's perfect.

An interesting point Mr Jimbo.

That said, I think apart from that lying 'see you next tuesday' admin of the Edinburg site most taxi/PH drivers north of the wall are a fair minded bunch of chaps.

Yes, so I've noticed Jimbo - if you want to take a rise out of Myth and Reality in your signature you could at least get rid of the redundant apostrophes in "Typewriter's and Monkey's", lest the Scots think the English are only semi-literate.

But it is rather ironic

However, perhaps we should just assume that the irony was intended.

Don't know who you mean Jimbo, but I'm not quite as bad as Lynne Truss, who wrote the best-seller "Eats, shoots and leaves", and who has been described by some as an "apostrophe fascist".

Or was that "Eats shoots and leaves"? Anyway, the point of the book's title was that the presence or otherwise of the comma after the word 'eats' could fundmentally change the meaning of the sentence, so it can pay to be pedantic Jimbo

Hi
I agree wtih you Mike. I am in Dublin a lot and the companies I deal with are getting busier. Its fantastic going out in the evenings and not choking to death in a pub due to the smoke.

Peoples views will change in Scotand. If they want a cig then they will do what is done in Ireland, they will go outside and have one then come back in.

Ireland has been thru it all and survied. Role on March.

regards

Yeah, Sunday heralds the arrival of fascism in Scotland.

No longer does government have to compromise, find solutions that reflect the interests of all. Just listen to a vociferous lobby, manufacture a moral panic and legislate draconian laws.

I'm a non-smoker. Hate, loathe and detest it.

But you don't have to be the brain of britain to realise dictatorship when you see it.

Why should pub owners, who invest fortunes in their business be prevented from servicing the needs of their customers as they see fit. Where there is the possibility to provide wholly separate, fully ventilated areas, why should they not be allowed to operate them?

And, I don't believe there has been no effect in Ireland. Dublin has lost 200 pubs since the ban. Off sales are up, on sales are down. people are smoking no less, they're just doing it at home. Presumably in front of the kids. Passenegers in my cab tell me a different story to the propaganda from the no smoking lobby. Even the clubs are quieter.

The smoking ban discriminates. Yet our "democracy" is supposed to abhor discrimination. It's OK to discriminate when it suits government to do so? Isn't that fascism? Interesting that Hitler banned smoking in public places, isn't it? A relevant parallel?

All of the numpties who think this is good legislation, remember this when something you partake in is banned. I suggest the drinking of alcohol. Hill walking because it's too dangerous. Boxing, ditto. Fishing, because it hurts the poor wee creatures. Shut down take away food shops, poor health issues. Close clubs down earlier because of public objections. Close down budget airlines because of environmental concerns. The PC lobby are coming after an interest of yours.

When it's then too late to do anything to prevent it because you allowed the interests of individuals accounted for in law making to be jettisoned here.

In Dundee they are already preventing adults who smoke from fostering children. And, those who already do? They haven't discounted removing the kids from them. They have the real interests of these vulnerable kids are heart, don't they? Not!!!!

How long before the council pseudo cops come to your door with a warrant to search your premises because someone, whom you've fallen foul off, makes a spurious complaint that you're smoking in front of your kids? Think it won't happen? Or that you're allowing your kids to eat junk food?

Meanwhile, thanks to the plonkers without brains capable of reason and common decency, I'll just take the hit. I'll just have to work longer, driving past smokers disfiguring our environment as they huddle in the open spaces, a testament to man's inhumanity and complete disregard for others. A monument to the abuse of political power and lack of wisdom.

Thanks.
