Will I be able to attain a lisence to operate as Private Hire with a history of substance misuse on my GP records?

1 instance, succesfully rehabilotated.

I know diffwrent authorities require differing periods but has anybody gone through somethimg similar and attained lisence? Alcohol/drugs rehab?

Dont wanna get my hopes up.

The questions the licensing authority will ask itself is how long ago the abuse happened, how long you have been clean, and what effect the drugs had on you, i.e. did you commit crime to fund your habit.

Everyone makes mistakes in their life, but the issue for the council will be where you are now.

The council won't have access to your medical records; the doctor, when undertaking your medical, will only answer the questions asked on the medical form.

Whatever you do during the application process, always be honest with the council.

If the drugs matter comes up, ask your doctor to write a letter saying you did have a problem in xxxx, but you have been drug-free ever since.

Most of the age/time requirements relate to crime; I'm not sure there is one for being drug-free.

I'd guess this is one where individual authorities would take widely different approaches - some maybe sympathetic, others less so.

But, as Sussex says, better to be upfront rather than trying to hide anything, particularly as the vetting procedures will disclose even police warnings and the like, and not just any criminal convictions.

Of course, that's not to say you wouldn't be successful, but if there is stuff on your record then it won't help your chances if you try to cover it up, because you'd almost certainly be found out.

But at a rough guess I'd say the length of time clean will be the main factor they would consider, assuming there's nothing else significant on your application.

Maybe a good idea just to get in touch with them and ask what their likely approach would be before submitting a formal application, because it would cost a bob or two to go through the application if it was subsequently rejected.

Of course, there's no guarantee until it's actually done and dusted, but no point throwing money down the drain on an application that's never going to succeed. There are plenty of those in the news section on here :?

Thanks so much. I forgot to add that I dont have ang convictions related to drugs or alchol, or anything for that matter.
I only have a warning and a reprimand for S4/S5 when I was 16/17. Im now 40.

I will also pass an emhamced CRB check. No driving offences.

As SW suggests above, email them and ask to speak to an officer before applying, to gauge their views.

Given what you have said on here, I think you have a good chance of getting licensed.
