Can't believe 100 drivers in Crawley hold both separate HC and PH badges at present, but that's what it says.

Crawley Borough Council proposes new dual taxi driver licence to streamline local licensing

https://www.sussexexpress.co.uk/news/po ... ng-5503420

Crawley Borough Council is proposing to introduce a new, dual taxi driver licence that would allow drivers to apply for both Hackney Carriage and private hire licences through a single application process.

The proposal is designed to modernise the licensing system, reduce duplication, and improve efficiency while maintaining all required safety, knowledge, and training standards.

Currently, drivers who wish to hold both licences must complete two separate applications, pay two sets of fees and undergo separate processes. At present, over 100 Crawley drivers hold both Hackney Carriage and private hire badges under the existing two licence system.

The new dual licence would bring these requirements together into one streamlined application, though applicants would still need to pass all training and knowledge tests for both types of licence.

Councillor Yasmin Khan, Cabinet member for Public Protection, who welcomed the move, said: “We want to make it easier for our hard-working taxi drivers to expand their business. This proposal is about making our licensing system simpler for drivers, while keeping all of our high safety and compliance standards firmly in place. By introducing a single dual licence, we can reduce unnecessary duplication for taxi drivers so that they can get on and take bookings.”

Makes it sound like one of those people who thinks you can't do pre-booked work in an HC with an HC driver's badge :?

Up until the time B&H introduced dual licenses, I would say about the same number of drivers had both as well, possibly more.

Given they only have 123 hackneys, that's quite a high number.
