A rare piece from the Spalding & South Holland Voice
Looked like some of the detail might have been interesting, but the article comes to a bit of a grinding halt before it comes to the nitty gritty stage...
Claim disabled facing ‘taxi tax’ in Spaldinghttps://spaldingvoice.co.uk/claim-disab ... -spalding/People with disability issues are being charged more for taxis locally, a councillor has claimed.Coun James Le Sage raised the issue at last week’s meeting of South Holland District Council after being told of residents who had been asked to pay extra for their journeys due to having a wheelchair.
He called for greater spot checks to be carried out on vehicles to try and root out the problem.
“This is obviously against the law,” he said. “I have also heard of meters not being on display as they should be and running and demands for only payment in cash.
“I am concerned that not only that my constituents may be affected by these actions but the wider population of SHDC.”
He questioned portfolio holder for licensing Coun Anthony Casson: “Could we please ensure more spot checks are being carried out as the elderly or less savvy might not know the rules with regarding taxis.
“We know this is not right.”
Coun Casson said he would raise it with officers and responded: “They shouldn’t be charging more for disabled people.”
The Voice asked South Holland District Council if any action had been carried out following the meeting, but we had not received a response.
