Not really much of a trade angle here, but I've tried to shoehorn one in with the thread title :-o

(Although it doesn't look like the knife was directly involved in the 'taxi' bit...)

A man was hit in the face through the window of a taxi during a street attack.

The 28-year-old victim was one of two people injured in the incident, which took place shortly before 6pm on Saturday, June 27, on Sillwood Street in Brighton.

The victim said: "I was in a taxi coming back from my friend's house and the taxi pulled up and a guy out of nowhere came through the taxi window and hit me in the eye, it hurt loads and my eye felt really weird.

"I didn't know what happened and the taxi driver said, 'You've got blood all over you.'

"He said, 'We're not stopping here,' and drove me to hospital."

The knifeman injured two people in "the serious" assault before being tackled to the ground by members of the public.

Two men were assaulted during the incident, which also involved a knife.

Sussex Police said: "Two men, both local, were injured when they were assaulted by a man carrying a knife, in an incident just before 6pm.

"A 29-year-old man suffered a slash to his face and ear and he was treated at hospital and discharged.

"A man, 28, was hit in the face through the window of a taxi and he was assessed at hospital.

"The man with the knife went on to chase and grab hold of dog before he was tackled to the ground by members of the public and the knife was seized. The dog was unharmed.

"A 33-year-old man, who lives locally, was arrested for assault occasioning grievous bodily harm with intent and he remains in custody."

The 28-year-old victim shared what he heard people saying on the street whilst he was in the taxi.

He said: "Everyone was telling me 'he's got a knife' and I could see it in his hand.

"I was just lucky it wasn't a machete."

A 29-year-old man suffered a slash to his face and ear and was treated in hospital before being discharged.

The attacker chased and grabbed hold of a dog before he was tackled to the ground by members of the public.

The knife was seized and the dog was unharmed.

A 33-year-old man from the area was arrested for assault occasioning grievous bodily harm with intent and remains in custody.

Detective Inspector Stephen Taylor of Sussex Police said: "This was a distressing and serious incident and the victims are being supported by officers.

"A thorough investigation is underway to ensure we have a full picture of what happened.

"Witnesses have come forward and we thank them for helping us in our investigation."

Neighbourhood officers are patrolling in the area.

DI Taylor said: "Our neighbourhood policing officers are patrolling in the area and if anyone has any concerns they should speak with them."

The 28-year-old victim said he was taken to hospital by the taxi driver and stayed there for several hours.

He said: "I was at the hospital for four or five hours and the sun was setting by the time I got back."

An area full of nutters and smack heads.

Drugs, knives, and nutters are really not a good combination.

Well done for the cabby though.
