Well the numbers as portrayed at the bottom here are straightforward enough, and they cover several different tariffs. But they're just the flagfall amounts, which can of course be a bit misleading as regards the bigger picture.

And the %age increase near the start is simply the T1 two-mile run. Which is the trip PHTM uses for its fare tables. But, again, that can be a bit misleading as regards the bigger picture.

Anyway, interesting that the firm requesting the increase here is the one in Evesham that was reported to have gone out of business recently.

Because of Uber, mainly, wasn't it? :-o

So there's talk here about Uber and Wolves plates. But not really anything about how the fare thing might impact things in terms of Uber and cross-bordering etc...

Taxi fares set to rise across Wychavon from November

Councillors have voted to raise the maximum amount that can be charged by Hackney carriages across the district, subject to a formal consultation.

The 12.9 percent increase will set the cost of a two-mile tariff one journey at £7. Prices in the district have not been increased since 2022.

Wychavon District Council’s licensing committee met on Wednesday (September 30) to discuss a request to increase taxi fares made by KLA Taxis back in May.

The Evesham-based firm has since announced it is closing down.

Licensing officer Hazel Powell said the council carried out a survey of Hackney carriage drivers in June and had 24 responses.

She said 58 percent were in favour of the price increase but drivers also raised concerns about being "priced out of the market".

Ms Powell said fuel prices and the "cumulative cost of living" were among the factors councillors needed to consider.

Councillor Mark Goodge asked if the fact the request had been made by KLA, which is "no longer an active taxi firm", made any difference to the committee’s decision making.

Ms Powell said the request had been made some time ago, the firm had not surrendered any of their licences to the council and officers had now been out to the trade with a survey.

The committee heard there are 42 licensed Hackney carriages in Wychavon.

Chair Chris Day said this was a "small fraction when you include Uber and private hire vehicles".

Councillor John Clatworthy said there is a "phenomenal number of taxis" from Wolverhampton operating in Evesham.

He called the influx of drivers from Wolverhampton an "invasion from another district" and asked: "Are Wychavon drivers going to be in danger of losing a lot of income?"

Ms Powell said the situation is a concern but added: "They are operating legally and we have very little power to do anything to stop them being here."

Cllr Goodge said the rise of app-based private hire services has "blurred the lines" but was not what councillors were discussing.

He said he was in favour of starting a formal public consultation on the proposed taxi fare increases, a suggestion that was unanimously accepted.

The changes, which will take effect from November 2 subject to the consultation, will see the initial hiring charge go up from £4 to £4.52 tariff one journeys, £5.10 to £5.76 for tariff two and £6.60 to £7.45 for tariff three.
